Healing Agro

You know lately I have been noticing some weired things happening with incoming and heal agro. Anyone else notice some differences with what it used to be?

I mean I've seen clerics get agro with heals from the meleing warrior.(not on raids but in xp groups)
Pulled mobs going for casters who haven't had a chance to do anything yet.

I agree. I was duoing with a 58 mage and 58 druid and the druid would do nothing except send in his pet and the druid would randomly get spells cast on him from mobs in melee. This is even with the mage casting, the mage pet attacking, and druid pet attacking.

The mage has -3 aggression, but the druid aggro should at least be lower than those pets I would think. But he was getting nuked or dotted before he had ever cast a heal. He was also out of what would be the normal aggro radius.

What i have seen happening lately is:

Mob is getting pulled.
monk fds.
I use my gloves to agro the mob.
Mob resists my gloves clicky but still comes towards me.
Mob runs past me and kills someone that hasnt done anything yet. (sometimes this would be my cleric that is standing behind me and doing nothing since i am on my war)

Mobs have different aggro priorities if they are not physically engaged with a tank. If the tank doesn't run up and get into melee range a mob can and will run past them to a squishy. Even after a SK hate spell lands. You need ot be physically in it's face hitting it.

Also on the spell casting thing, I've always noticed that some spell casting mobs tend to cast nukes and stuff on the second person who gets on their aggro list, not their current target. Kinda like rampage nukes.

For whats its worth I've noticed it a little as well. I have a cleric and a wizzy I play often. It just wierd to me being a million miles away outa agro radius, but the shadelord decided my wizzy needs to pay. My wiz hasn't done anything yet and is standing there not sitting. During most of the fight my little wiz gets targets for lifetaps. It's just wierd sence Ive done nothing to even be on his hate list.

Just wierdness Ive noticed playing.

Spell AI is actually rather intelligent, especially with stuns. I'm not sure that it would fall into something like 'top 2 on aggro list get casted on'

I don't know as I'd call it intelligent AI. It acts pretty stupid in my opinion. Harthuks were trying to nuke and DoT my druid AFTER his pet and the mage pet had more aggro. Also the druid hadn't cast any spells in that fight yet and the mage had cast a DoT on the Harthuk. Occasionally he'd try to nuke or DoT the mage as well, but mostly it was the druid.

I mean if there's going to be "clever" AI, then lose the idea of the traditional "hate list" because it throws the game out of whack. I can understand for raid mobs and such, but exp grinds shouldn't be dealing with that stuff.

I believe in the case of what Ratkon is saying that mobs can be set to different levels of artificial intelligence and that mayby a resisted gloves doesn't give agro (as would a resisted stun iirc?) and so the mob prioratizes a healer on his to-kill list. Just a thought, would love to know exactly though :what:

In regards to casting mobs who can stun:
The AI on those is awesome imo. They do stun on casters as would any intelligent beeing.

mind numbing is fun

That's why they call it exp GRINDING...because it's not fun, but it's consistent. Special AI on non-raid mobs isn't all that cool. It's not like it's very GOOD AI, it's more like a one trick pony. They do something different than other mobs do, but I don't see it as an enhancement to the game that they randomly nuke someone way out of aggro range who isn't casting.

They wont (or shouldn't ) randomly nuke, however intelligent NPCs will DoT or debuff everyone. Thats why you see on Necromancer / shaman mobs other people malised, slowed, DoTed, etc. Also most intelligent NPCs will use any AEs they have if more than one player is engaged, but not if you are soloing. Nifty little tidbits.

I think all mobs that have the ability to cast are "intelligent". They will always try to hurt as many persons involved as possible. I randomly get nuked/dotted/debuffed on Luas just for casting a single spell even if it's ways after engage - pretty much some sort of "Oh shit he can hurt me, discharging preemptive measures." thing. Makes the game pretty interesting because besides a mob ripping up your local tank it will add some challenge to the entire group (if the spells are strong enough).
