Haven't Played EQ in over a decade

Is SoD a lot like the old EQ classic? I didn't see Innathule Swamp, Feerrott, Deserts of Ro, etc in the zone list? I rea;;y just want to try it out and see some nostaligic zones that I remember fondly.

Yes, it is. Most of the zones you'll go to at lower levels are connected the same as in eq classic and have the same creatures for the most part. But I have two suggestions for you to make it feels like old eq.

/filter auction
/filter ooc

ooc or out of character chat is server-wide, and it really destroys the immersion the game gives. As does the auction channel, because it's basically a few farmers or guild mules spamming all day.

yeah i've played eq since beta3 to when level 60 was the cap (I shortly left after getting my celestial monk fists). It was fun back in the day and an accidently basement cleaning project stumbled me back on my old eq cd's. Being bored with WoW I looked up free eq servers and just happened on this one.

Its really great! The gm's here are very helpful and friendly. Quick to respond to petitions. If that other company had a few gm's like this server has, who knows i'd be still on live :)

Ahhh the good old days... and the bugs of old. Like those Monk gloves that were suppose to have 5 charges of complete heal, and the coder messed up and it went unnoticed for a week or so that the gloves Proced Compelete heal. Monks were soloing basicly everything in the game LOL.

What Server did you play on?

I played on Povar for most my eq life then my guild "Harmonium" moved to Xev...

I was Nuglug Fuglee back in the earlier days as a Troll warrior, but soon after the iksar's were added in and monk was an option I jumped troll for a more superior race :)

side note, I was the first server wide person to raid Kaladim and kill the dwarf king (I know its not that special now a days) but I did have a few of the live staff members watching the event. It was pretty fun back in the day with some big fatties running thru the dwarf town.

Over a decade! Wee

I started live when there was no talk of Kunark and quit before the new graphics came out with luclin. Fun stuff. My big suggestion is this. While you're a newbie here running around...Don't go to "common lands" or Freeport. Here they are Plaguelands, a 60+ zone, and Freeport is an undead city for 50+. I made that mistake myself on my first day, I wanted to go to freeport and died embarrasingly fast.
Happy hunting and enjoy SoD. It's great!

I had a similar question! Glad to see I'm not the only one. I use to play on Xev as well. No clue what to play though! Just how different can the zones be?

You'd be suprised, take a visit to the 'ole EC tunnel....

I'm kidding, don't you'll be massacared by the pumas.

Pumas? o_0 Yeah I read that the commonlands are scary now! I think I want to play either a necro or monk.. up for suggestions though!

If you can 2box make both and be iksar the superior race. Iksars Eat gnomes.
Personally I love the monk because as you lvl up gear isnt a really big deal for you while for a necro its a little more important. Of course sooner or later you'll hit 65 and then it becomes a grind to get the gear/aa.
Pick whichever class you would have the most fun with.

One of my first characters ever was an Iksar Shadowknight, I remember getting lost around that dang lake!

If monks aren't as item dependent than a necro I might try that first.

Anymore suggestions would be appreciated! I haven't gotten into the game yet so I keep getting the feeling I will be completely lost once I do get in.

If you start a monk, dont make the misktake I did...

Make a 2nd account right away (yes, play 2 accounts) a monk is a very hard class to start as a newbie on this server. Mainly since you cant loot, if you cant loot you cant gain coin, if you cant gain coin, you cant get rather nice items (charms are very nice on here) I played a single account (monk) until I was around 50ish... I was almost going to quit since I had only 75pp... which means I was very poor and not too many players want to group with an ungeared monk, so I made a shaman and got him to my level range fairly fast and life was good.

My 2nd account is a shaman, seemed to be a nice fit at the time, free pet/heal and buff bot. I can still do all the action on my monk just having a shammy sitting and poppin up for a heal is nice ;)

hehe oops! Allready made that mistake! I'm also thinking about a necromancer but I dont know how hard that would be.

If anyone could tell me some monk/necro stuff that would be great! I know a little about the monk allready but not a lot.

Necs are easy to level. Nec with a shammy is great for kiting, though not a necessity. Monk/shammy is pretty awesome. Since you can use the shammy for buffs, heals, chow, and as a drop mule. My monk carries food, water, and no drops.

The shammy may think of the monk as an elaborate pet though, the lazy iguana.
