Now this has happened 3 times due to people being bad, I figured I'd report this. As it stands right now, /cm guild promote doesn't allow people to promote people to an equal or higher rank than themselves, which makes sense for obvious reasons. However, it seems that /cm guild demote does NOT check for this at all. This means that as long as a person has demote privileges, they can demote anybody from any rank to whatever rank they want. This may seem like a "don't give demote to people you don't trust" situation except I've had people demote with the wrong character targeted which causes issues too.

Basically, a rank 2 with demote should not be able to demote another rank 2 or any ranks which are higher up, which is currently possible.
 
This makes no sense, why should a lower rank be able to demote a higher rank to 2, 3, or anything?
 
Yes, I understand that 0 is the highest rank. A rank 2 was able to demote me from rank 0. This is clearly not an intended function.
 
Any rank that you allow rank editing to can promote or demote anyone. I demoted Juff who was flagged as the leader of FWF and rank 0 while I was rank 1 to a rank 5 bich baby and we had to get a GM to restore a rank 0 because you cannot promote past your own rank.

moral of the story is ranks are dangerous but juff still deserves to be a bich baby
 
/guildinvite spam allows me to promote people higher than my rank :) in all reality only the leaders should have demotion privleges. And to make that so just make it so the other ranks cant demote. /cm guild help
 
As a test I tried demoting a rank 1 to rank 2, using a rank 2 member and here was the message I got.

[size=+2]You cannot demote people with a greater or equal rank than yourself[/size]

They wouldn't intentionally prevent you from demoting to what rank you're at but let you demote to lower ranks. That would be absolutely inane.

People with rank 1, 2 or whatever should not be able to demote anybody higher, to any level. This is clearly a bug.

You just need to restrict the privleges of your ranks. Iirc idk been a long time rank 1 ahd 0 are the same privleges. And rank 2 is slightly less? Maybe not able to mute guild chat... idr
 
Dude i might be just really tired and thinking wrong but your first and last posts contradict eachother.... and i think you solved your prob
 
Arhghghghg. No the problem is not solved this really isn't a complicated issue, people are just derailing my thread.

Rank 2 demotes rank 1 to rank 2: Receives error that it cannot happen
Rank 2 demotes rank 0 to rank 4: It works fine and demotes the rank 0

This really is not difficult to understand.

The rank 0 even demoted to rank 4 if its leader flagged can just repromote himself. But i mean if its that big of an issue to you just set it so rank 2 cant demote at all!
 
Code-based things really aren't my jurisdiction, but I'd like to note a few things:

(1) Rank 0 =/= Guild Leader ... just because you are Rank 0, that doesn't mean you're the guild leader, though being Rank 0 is necessary to get the guild leader flag passed to you.

(2) The Guild Leader flag is account-based, and it's easily checked by the GM-Team.

(3) Restoring Rank 0 to a character on the account with the Guild Leader flag is something that's petitionable and usually a quick fix.
