/gu is meant to be a place to look for help (rantish, mild)

Yes, I am in the newbie guild at level 36 on my main. Yes, I plan on staying there. Yes, I like it. Yes, people ask questions constantly and I am happy to help them.

Yesterday, some fellow asked a question and another fellow went on and on and on and ON about how he should have looked on the wiki before asking in /gu. It was a research resource and he should have found the answer himself. Am I wrong in considering /gu a resource? Is it wrong to ask a quick question rather than spend 5 minutes loading a page while playing and sorting through to find an answer that someone will happily give you in 5 seconds?

Anyone who is new can ask me anything at anytime. If I cannot at least point them in the write direction, I will then refer them to the wiki or /ooc. When you answer a question you have the option of guiding someone in the right direction instead of just giving them all the info. You have the chance to enrich their game experience VS them going and seeing every drop of info available. I love the wiki but I also love the game and hope others do as well.

In summation(yes I talk like that for some damn reason), I find it in terribly poor taste to rip on someone for 5 minutes because they did not do something the way you did. So sit down, shutup and play the damned game rather than give a pointless /gu clogging argument over something stupid like having the balls to ask a question.

Your Friend,

Nelam

Just my humble opinion, but I would have to say NO! It isn't wrong to ask guild for help. At least not in our guild. That is what guild is there for. It's a community/family (again IMHO) that should be used as another resource (in addition to the wiki and the various SoD related websites). *shrug* Some of the "non-family" guilds that raid 24/7 may be more strict about sillaaay stuff like that. Who knows (the ones I was in -- not on this server -- weren't like that either, but maybe I was just lucky)!

Thing is, he could of ignored the question, answer it and pointed out the wiki site also, either or both of these would of been quicker than ranting on and trying to 'look cool' (dunno how you can look cool while playing eq but I digress).

The newbie guild is there for people who are newbies to SoD (not nessacarily to EQ), and its there for questions to be asked!

I ask stuff I dont know, and answer stuff I do know, its not hard. Its not hard to /removeguild or ignore the question if you want either.

The very reason it was created was to get a helping hand, so no. It's most definately not wrong to ask for help in Dalaya's Beginners. Flaming is, however.

Well, Homogenn, if you want the guys name who was ragging PM or send me a tell in game and I will happily give you the chance to speak directly with him. I will not post it here as that would probably lead to him being sent a million /tells and I am not out to make him look bad publicly.

At least, not let everyone know which peron looks bad but he gets to read this and see the opinion taken towards his behavior without humiliating him publicly.

I don't. Unless it happens again. Oh, and if you haven't already, please turn on your logs, to make things easier on the GMs:)

its /guildremove whille having urself targetted btw..

but.. imo guild is best source of info. quick. and usually someone willing to help=) and someimtes can exlpain things better.

Beyond the fact that the mean person described with completely wrong in that the beginner channel is absolutely the right place to ask questions, some folks are such emotional losers that they have to gain personal satisfaction by belittling others. I probably spend too much time looking for things to be offended over, but I have noticed that those things are usually related to one person trying to make another person feel stupid or less valuable as a human being. I have absolutely no tolerance for bullies, especially intellectual bullies as some smarts should inform some compassion.

I think that the guys in the beginner guild who answer the same questions over and over again with a joke and a friendly word are secular saints and should be praised. Just because they suffer fools doesn't mean they encourage them.

For those of us who believe, let us hope that God also suffers fools.

The beginner's guild is indeed partially for questions, but not utterly retarded questions that have their answers on an inobscure part of the website such as the Read First section. As I don't know what the question was, I can't really give a definite answer of whether you're in the right or wrong in this specific instance.

An important thing to consider is that some people join this server everyday, so obviously they won't know about any sort of wiki. Not only that, but if you flame people for asking questions in Dalaya's Beginners you are really a fool for staying in that guild.

Yeah, because we allow flaming if it's dumb questions. :?

Somehow, I don't see telling someone to go look at the Wiki as flaming. I would even hazard to guess that since noone literally drones on and on about trivial things for no good reason, it was more of an argument about whether or not he should look at the Wiki and not him actually droning "on and on and on and ON".

Reading the original post is always a good idea, especially for a GM. :)

I think the main poster is just saying that the other dude was flaming a fellow noob, thinking he was cool shit because he had the inside wiki infoz.

Wrong?

yes, that is what I was saying.

Mr. B asked about a quest bit of info. I offered him the info and then Mr Y pops in and rags the shit out of him incessantly for not looking in the Wiki rather than asking in /gu. This literally went on for over 5 minutes. Several people in DB (Dalaya's Beginners) were telling Mr. Y that that was enough and he was wrong etc. All the while, using far more tact and consideration than Mr Y. It was just rude is all. There is no one on my ignore list at the 7 month mark (or so, was pre CnD) but this guy will be if he pops up on my radar again.

Make me an officer in DB so I can smack idiots like that :censored: Mr. Y.

I interpreted his post as flaming, especially from reading his other posts, as well. But it really doesn't matter. This issue is dead. Asking for help in Dalaya's Beginners is allowed.

ps I locked it because it was going pretty off topic, which I take blame for.
