It's because it is an instrument so it takes up the primary slot as well.

Then what is the point of putting casters on it, if it is only wieldable as a 2h'er?

To give casters a two hander, I don't know what mob drops this but they are generally much higher in stats for the tier to make up for you know the fact that it takes two slots.

It drops in yclist, and that is what I was thinking that for it to be worth it for a caster would have to have huge stats.

It drops from a T9 or T10 Mob and has equivalent stats to Brimstone Buckler which is also dropped from a T9 Mob and is a Secondary only equipable item.

In short it appears to me that Grime Crusted Shofar should permit a Primary item to be used.

That is what I was thinking bridger. It drops on a harder mob than the one that drops brimstone was thinking if meant to be 2handed would have better stats,

It's not so much that brass mod is useless (both song of the blade master and denon's agonizing discord use it) it's more so that an instrument consuming both hands for an improvement to those is just never worth it. The only instruments currently ever worth using are a drum, and a flute. And the only flute worth using is off the golem earlier in the same zone.

So many other hold-overs from live have been changed.. why does the bard instrument penalty continue? Yes, logic says that you need both hands to play an instrument, but logic says I can only wear one backpack (maybe 2 if I press my luck), but meanwhile my toon has 8 various bags. Game play > realism, afterall.

I don't know if that'd even be worth it at this point. At low tiers without relic chant unless you had no instrument mod at all you'd gain 2.2 perc mod, which is ~40 dps. That's a 120% increase to song damage and it's only 40 dps. Granted offhand at that point will be like 20-30 dps. But if you had ANY mod otherwise (even a thurg gem) it'd be nearly pointless. At a high tier you only gain 1.0 mod at best, which is ~18 dps? Considering your weapon is going to be like 70-100 dps, definitely a loss. Unless you had an instrument that was like 5-8 tiers above your weapon it'd not be worth it.

I didn't say it would be recommended for your whole gaming time.. but it could certainly help bards that are leveling up, and at lower tiers perhaps. At mid tiers and up, most bards have mods all over their armor, making the "need" for an instrument less.
It really doesn't matter much to me, I don't play my bard much anymore anyways. Just an open ended question I guess.

As thade said, there are instances where a drum/flute is a very viable option and its cool that bards can stop meeleing and just use an instrument for these situations. The problem I see is just that this item doesn't really have a place.

I agree with silo, that if the item in question was to be caster useable should either be able to be used as a shield and allowed for a primary to also be used, or stats pumped up to offset the loss of a primary.

Or the mod could be taken off and have it just a normal secondary.

I would like to request one of the following actions be taken for the horn:
1) Make it bard only
2) Boost the stats and leave it only wieldable in the secondary
3) Make is so one can use a primary weapon along with horn

ok since I am no longer wearing the item hoping someone will look at it and make changes the stats are:
55ac
5 conjuration
15 str 25 sta 20 cha 15 wis/int 25 agi 220 hps and 185 mana
25 sv dis 20sv poison
2 ft

vs

brimstone buckler off lower tiered mob
35ac
15 str 20cha 18wis/int 125hp 170mana
7sv all
2ft

again think that this should either have the brass mod removed, become bard only, or stats bumped up huge due to primary loss.

Thanks

Technically no one should be able to use the shofar but jewish bards.

Anyways I don't see why you can't knock off 80hp and 10AC and some agi/sta and call it a standard secondary.
