Greaves of Embedded Eyes

I've had these for a while and wanted to wait until the DM changes went in before talking about them.

The stats of the Embedded Eye greaves are:

AC 22, Str 8, Sta 8, Wis 12, Int 12, HP 50, Mana 75
Fire 10, Cold 10, Magic 12
War, Pal, Shd, Brd
1 Type 2 Aug

They come from the First Watcher in Misery, so a Tier 3 zone from Waldoff's raid tier thread.

For being greaves for tanks, they don't really have the AC for it, 27 AC with an aug. Checking the Fomelo on the tanks which I see raiding in Misery, none of them wear these. The majority of tanks in my tier level (Tier 2 is doable, working on mobs in Tier 3) use Deepmetal Greaves.

Deepmetal Platemail Greaves
AC 28, Str 7, Sta 8, Agl 10, HP 60, Mana 40
Fire 2, Dis 1, Cold 2, Magic 6, Poi 1
2 Type 2 Augs

Pretty much everyone uses AC augs to bump them up to 38 AC.

There are a few other choices in greaves at Tier 3 and below (Leggings of Deflection and Heavy Ceruleon Leggings) but still DM legs seem to be the choice for tanks. So I was hoping the Embedded Eyes greaves could be looked at for an adjustment to make them comparable to DM legs and give tanks at tier 3 and below more of a choice for legs. It's pretty homongenous now with everyone having DM legs on. Also, it makes sense to find some greaves comparable to DM legs in a Tier 3 raid zone.

My suggestion is to leave the stats the way they are but increase the AC of the Embedded Eyes greaves to 33. With augs, this would be the same AC as DM is. DM greaves would have a bit more HP and agility, while the Embedded Eyes greaves would have more mana and resists. This wouldn't make it such a no brainer to always go with the DM legs.

The changes to Embedded Eyes greaves wouldn't interfer with the next level up in greaves either. From what I search around and found they seem to be Treacherous Trousers from Nightmare.

AC 35, Casting Speed 5, Str 15, Sta 10, Agil 12, Dex 12, HP 100, Mana 80
Poi 20
War, Pal, Shd, Brd, 1 Type 2 Aug

I could be wrong here and there might be some tank greaves between DM and Treacherous Trousers, but I sure can't find them.

Halls of Misery was itemized long before Deepmetal ever existed and this item is one of the many textbook cases of crafted items trivializing lower end raid content.

For what it's worth I agree with you, though I would be more supportive of a tradeskill item nerf as opposed to a misery loot upgrade.

Could always go get the VD tmap greaves. Or maybe DM will get another ac nerf, u never know... u never know...

I guess these pants fit in with the trend of getting tanks other stats besides AC (see DM changes). They MIGHT be useful to somebody.. maybe..

Look more like chain style leggings...

Prehaps just changing the classes on it, tack on Rng, Shm, Rogue, and I think you would have a winner.

They are clearly meant for tanks because there is no cleric on them, supporting Cambrai's request.

DM Legs, Shamgar's Darkplate Greaves, and Heavy Ceruleon Leggings are all better than these legs. This looks like a pretty clear-cut case of these Embedded Eyes Greaves needing a boost to me.

Maybe up them to 30ac since the stats and resists are pretty good, and the 1st Watcher isn't too hard either.

I'm not sure I would go too high with the AC, simply because of all the legs in question, the First Watcher legs have VERY good resists on them and make a very good pair of resist gear leggings.

it is frustrating that alot of tier 1 and 2 tank loot isn't usable, there's not many aggro weapons or armor that are worth using, but going back and rebalancing it would take a huge ammount of time and would mess up the progression of gear in the later zones.

Do we want TS items to be a viable alternative for low level raid tiers or not?

i think things are fine as is with progression, sorry if that didn't come across, misery greaves could maybe use some love, but stuff in tier 1 and 2 are fine

There are some. I could name several on top of my head. Sure all the loot is far from being upgrades for everyone. But thats ok they usually drop ancients as well.

This is exactly how I and most of my guild think. Tier 1 and 2 stuff is fine. The majority of tier 3 stuff is fine... we'd kill for most things that drop in Misery, SE etc. There are just a few items that don't seem to make the grade and these greaves seem to be one of them. While the changes to the tradeskill items hurt my guild a bit, I see where the developers are coming from and support the changes they made. Tier 3 is where we are starting to trade out our tradeskill armor for the raid dropped ones, which is how i think it was planned. So no need to take another look at DM armor :keke:
