Grave Robbing

Difference between rogues and necros:

Honestly, the rogue stuff is a few silver or gold here and there and RARELY plat. And the way it's set up with guards roaming through town, there's a pretty good chance of being caught while sneaking into houses/stores. Graveyards?

Rogues can get the gnomish tinkered device, 25p. Paintings from 1 to 5p, statues, lockets, jewellery. There are tons of things that bring in actual plat. My rogue was able to buy himself alot of armor thanks to the house robbing.

I dea

I really like this Idea and i remeber reading something about the admins wantsing to change begging....Well why not make it a skill like Forage or like fishing....only digging...I mean you could get a shovel and dig and it woul search teh group d for things Find a few copper here a gold peice there a little ringa broken bottle....I mean this is a really good Idea and should be looked at more

I think this would be a cool idea. And if you are caught digging in there, if there are guards nearby or whatnot, you lose a wee bit of faction with the nearby city due to the despicable act of grave robbing.

My apologies if anyone said something similar to this elsewhere in the post.

the thing about forage is that the things you forage mostly can not be sold for cash, except to players. There is a step of work to actually attempt to sell them. If you make a skill which you could just "find" random cash objects on the ground, this is just free money for no reason. It would easily be attached to a macro key and automatically done. Free income for no work.

This is very counter-productive to the economy. Devs constantly are looking for way to balance the economy so there is not mass inflation, this would be one of the causes of inflation.

Before you argue that "it's only small amounts of money!" and "it's just for fun!" think of even half the player base using this constantly and imagine how much money would be introduced to the economy from this daily which would be in addition to any other means of income. (tradeskill income can not stack with mob drop income because you cant tradeskill and kill things at the same time)

It IS a small amount of money in the grand scheme of things. Graverobbing is not something you would be able to do everywhere and is not something that takes no time to do at all. If someone decides they want to rob a grave, they have given up the option to do something else, such as kill ice giants for their cash, or kill gnoll pups for their cash. I dont think anyone is complaining that gnolls have money. When I am playing a rogue and burglarizing homes or stealing from the citizens of Newport, that time I'm pick pocketing that locket worth 1 pp is time that I am not spending freezing my tail off at the ice giant camp looting a gem worth 10p.

The same argument could be used about fishing. The bait costs, what, 6 copper? Some of those fish I've brought in sell for more than the cost of the bait! Is that going to ruin the economy? Is there even any risk involved with fishing? (That would be fun if there was. Whoops! You just hooked a great white shark!)

And if half the player base decides to do graverobbing in one night, the items would be gone within five minutes, much in the way certain spots get fished out.

There are no graveyards currently in the zone files. You could use a dropped item (headstone, mound of earth) to represent a grave if there was such a thing, but I don't believe there is. If not, the only way to do a graveyard is to change client files, either zones or objects, which is not an option apparently.
Custom zones can be created and have been so, just none have been "released" yet. It's possible but time consuming.

ok

I am not goin to Argue the point that if you could find money in the graves that all people would do even if it was small becuase i think this is one of the reasons EQlive was so messed up...*stupid Economy* any way...

I am saying it could be like that I am not saying it has to be...I was figuring maybe just something Like you can dig up old cloth robes or something or to that effect...the skill can only be used in grave areas...Heck this could be another way to get treasure Maps if set up like fishing. and you cant aruge that "even if you did make it just itmes that sold for 1 or 2 copper people would still macro and make money" because in reality fishing alrdy does that....some of those fish sell nice...

also I Noticed some one commented on making faction go down...Faction is alrdy hard enough to get Especially in Newport...Why not just have it add Heat?

I still think this is a great Idea and can be worked in to SoD...thats why i love SoD...MORE AND MORE ORIGNAL IDEAS!!!

I allways thought necros should get some ability like this. Rogues get pick pocket. They should be able to rob a grave. It fits the class. heck i almost think they should be able to make bone armor or rings or flesh band stuff.

Make them worth more then just DPS. :)

Unnoticed

I dotn want this to go Unnoticed is there a way we can take this to the admins? maybe help them work it out like a player feedback sorta deal?

I've read the idea. I'm not commenting on it because I'm not ready to comment on it. There's no need to "take it to the admins".

At this point I'm not quite sure what I could add that's useful save for seconding the idea of this adding heat(when i made my own suggestions about a faction drop I didn't know about the heat system). I mean it has potential to be used in quests(both necro and cleric...each one there for different reasons). Also it adds atmosphere to the game by having these little mundain touches, after all where DO the dead end up in Dayala?

sorry wiz

Sorry Wiz For my "take it to the Admins" comment, I just fine this to be a good Idea...Something else i have ben thinking of is Maybe when you do grave robbing you can get Stuff for alchemy and such...or brewing....there are lots of possiblitys with this...while at the same time I relize it could unblance alot of things in game...but also would add another aspect and that is my biggest thing...i like New stuff In game...liek the old models of wolfs and Skellys =D good Idea...fishing revamp Good Idea....Keep up the good work SoD Staff....You peeps Rock!!!

Would bring another form of brewing (or alchemy) to the game - a lot more animal parts could be used though :)

Just as an aside- bone armor would be really, really cool.

(Maybe Necro/SK spell "Enchant Bone"?)

Bones for the armor could be found in the graves..

'Course, I'm one to believe prettymuch all but the nicer classes (Clerics, Paladins, Druids, Rangers) should have the ability to graverob.

I like the idea, it is open to alot of creativity of what you can find digging graves, you could find items like jewelry and clothing that you could sell to merchants for a couple of bucks, items for trade skilling, quests ect... and will be fun and could be chalenging when a skelly cons red pops up with his friends because you are disturbing its grave.

.....you start digging a grave.
.....you continue digging a grave.
.....you continue digging a grave.
.....you have found an old lady's underwear.
an_angry skeleton has awaken_01!
an_angry skeleton has awaken_02!
an_angry skeleton has awaken_03!
pain and suffering strikes you for 1008 points of damage!

Woud definitely add some flavor to necro's and sk's. Possibly rogues too, but then rogues have quite enough at the moment I think. But then again I'd also like an sk quest where you kick a puppy and steal candy from a baby while setting a kitten on fire.

Suprised nobody has mentioned this but, theres an old game called Betrayal At Krondor which had grave digging. There where graveyards outside some towns, and if you buy a shovel you could dig the grave. You might find some valuables buried with a body, or you might unleash an undead beast that has to be killed.

It was nice in an old game like that, altho for it to be fun in a modern game it would require more. But theres some good ideas in this thread so im sure it could be done.

I know am new here and all but the idea does sound good. however it would have to be blanced with rogs ablity to steal. being thats its in select areas would help, but outher things like if the graveyard isnt near any guards could have skellys (rather strong ones that is) that pop up out of the ground if the heat reaches that level. another thing you could add is if you die while robing the cash on you is taken from your corpes.

The cash being taken from your corpse wouldn't make a helluva lotta sense as it doesn't happen any other time you die. Also that would be more of an annoyance than a game mechanic and people would just bank first anyways, leaving little to no risk. Besides as far as balance is concerned that really doesn't seem to be, do rogues lose money when killed by guards (never played on so I don't know). I completely forgot about betrayal at krondor lol. Loved that game. S'freeware nowadays too
