Gobzilla

At about 11:30 PST people began reporting rumors of a giant goblin attacking newport. At first I figured it was a joke, however, as more reports flooded in I decided to check it out, so I left my group and gated. When I reached Newport he had made his way from North Newport to South Newport by the clocktower. And there he was, a 100 ft. tall goblin named Gobzilla, shouting things such as "Death to toky... err Newport!", surrounded by guards which he was methodically taking out in 3ish hits each. Some players joined the fight, however they were summoned and killed, or mowed down by his frequent rampages. Those who were killed weren't allowed to re-enter the zone, due to there being a quest in progress. Unfortunately I don't have any screenshots of the event, as I was hitting print screen instead of - to take screenshots  .

Eventually he killed all the guards and players, and was still at 93% or so, after which he stood still for a minute or two, then began to head deeper into the city. When he reached the trader stalls Newport's second wave of defenses arrived. What does every major city send after their guards are defeated? The giant attack bats of course! Groups of 3 attack bats began spawning, and Gobzilla continued to down them for a minute or two, although they were working him down, when the spawn rate increased. This proved to be too much for him to handle, and his health began to drop rapidly. When h got to about 25% he turned and ran towards the docks, and entered the water. After swimming into the wall for a minute or two a newport sharkmarine spawned and torpedoed him, instantly killing him. With this a newport guard captain shouted "The invader is repelled, or until the sequel at least!". With this the event ended.

Sorry again about the lack of screenshots. Hopefully some others will be able to post some, although it seems that noone was able to get a shot of the sharkmarine.

Tough luck about the screenshots, Aaterar ;( I'll post some of mine own later, lacking, unfortunately, the sharktacon.

Only got two good ones here, thumbnails are below.

Left the names on, hope you don't mind, found it amusing :p

Newport as I entered it.

Gobzilla himself, fighting off the giant attack bats!

They kicked you out of the zone permanently if he killed you? That's ridiculous

Are you ever going to stop being really dumb on these forums because that'd be great.

It does bring up a less dumb point though, wiz.

The thing I found is that if I were to join a massive GM event very early on, which results in my very early death due to not being prepared for it, I am unable to go back and finish said event. At times, you are actualy expected to die a horrible death at first, resulting in you being kicked out of the fun. Whereas, If i, or someone else were to join the event after everyone knows generally what's going on, they have a higher chance of surviving to the end, and getting to see the cool things such as attack bats and Torpedo Sharks.

Maybe a solution to this problem, should you be inclined to agree with me, would be to put the event into time-stages. For instance, Gobzilla's attacking the NP guards by the tower could be one part, then his moving to the attack bats would be a second part, resetting the "do not enter" block to those who have died early on.

That's just a suggestion, I do hope you consider it not-stupid. :p

And if that is too difficult/impossible to implement with the time stages, could you just put a counter on the re-enter for the event, and make some events a 1 time re-enter event, some events 2 times re-enter and so on. I would think that to be easier to implement from the coding side, and It would give those the chance that died early to experiance the end..

OR

Just set it so that they can re-enter the zone, but cannot engage the event mobs or people engaged with the event mobs if they have died during the event, that way they can still se whats going on, but are no longer able to affect the story of it.

just my thoughts...

Or provide some warning.

ie. Guardsmen Nickels shouts, "Scout Hadden has reported what looks to be a monstrous goblin heading for our fine city! Please take shelter!"

3 minutes later

"RRAAAWRRRR" /smash, /screech, etc.

People were locked out for 15 minutes, I can't believe you guys are actually upset over this.

Oh, no no i'm not upset.

I wasnt even online for the Gobzilla thing, but I was online for the attack on erudin event. I, as a necro, lived quite well even though i was there 5 minutes after it started. In fact, I died to the FD bug that keeps going around (I fd'd..everything stopped attacking, the mobs started to wander away, then turned around and attacked me even though I never got up).

I was removed from the event, and every zone the event was in, for way over 15 minutes. I don't even know how it ended, except that erudin is still cool.

I'm not upset in any way, i was giving possible suggestions for handling events and locking people out.

I like the idea of incentives to avoid dying, but as a player--when a one-time event comes around and you want to be a part of it, it does kind of suck to be expelled, for however long.

I'm not going to offer any fixes for this, because in the end Wiz will do what he wants and that's why this place is getting my love. I just want to add my two cents that as a player it is a little bummer to sit outside while everyone else /tell's you "HOLY COW THIS IS AWESOME." It's like those damn "Wish you were here" postcards.

Yeah, it sucks, but the alternative is that we can never have any meaningful events at all.

Don't worry, it's Gobzilla. He'll be back. He always comes back.

I eagerly await his battle with Mossra, the giant moss snake.
