Full screen mode is a flickering mess

Hi,

I have a 1680x1050 panel. When I don't use EQW it's a flickering mess, with elements of the desktop interposing with the main screen at varying flickering rates. Also, sometimes the sound is there, sometimes it isn't.

I can onoly select from about 4 very old resolutions in what I think is the, um, setup process. I'm not sure if it's that or it's crashed and I am getting elements from an old setup process of EQ. At one point it refused to let me continue saying I only had 4Gig of memory but I seem to have got past that limitation. I am now running 8Gig of memory.

On the full screen and resolution issues: will it run in full screen at 1680x1050? I can play without sound but I can't play when it flickers like that. Even with the seizure warning I suspect a doctor wouldn't recommend anyone to look at for too long.

I selected eqgame as my executable - could that be the problem? Should it have been everquest.exe?

Also, it keeps saying I have been disconnected in character select.

EDIT: Actually this is really my major problem. I am reading through the stickies and cannot see any reference to needing to open particular ports. I would assume that if EQ works for me normally (on paid servers) then it should work ok with UPnP enabled on the router and in Windows 7.

I get part of the way through character select but sooner, rather than later, I get the "you have been disconnected " screen.

I could run in DMZ for a particular machine to see if it is port related.

Any ideas please?

eqgame is correct. If you select everquest, it will patch to live.

Have you tried updating your video drivers from the video card manufacturer? The manufacturer's drivers are typically MUCH better than the default Microsoft drivers.

Being disconnected sounds like an internet connectivity problem.

I'm using ATI 10.10. There are problems with 10.11 & 10.12

Reading through the "default.ini" which I think is specific to this server, all the defaults assume one of 4 legacy screen sizes. I have changed the resolution in the eqclient.ini

My main problem now is the disconnection from server.

If I could get a list of ports I could open them. Normally they should open with proper protocol, but I'm assuming this is a bit of a hack and maybe they need to be manually opened?

the elements which are interposing may be a multi processor issue. in the patcher be sure to choose to bind the games affinity to one of your processors. if that does not help i know that at least amd had a patch which could make muti-core processors look like one for older games.

for your models issue try to just hit enter on that screen instead of clicking out of it with your mouse. you have enough ram, i think the game just doesn't know how to read that much of it. i mean, i think the client was made in 1999 or something like that.

some of the other issues you have; to be frank its been so long since i had to correct similar issues i simply can't remember the fix. good luck, i hope the other ideas help ya.
