Foraging food

A few weeks back I maxed out foraging because it was a button to push and I always found discovering my own food throughout various places to be neat. However, the proportion of water to food is completely lopsided. Constantly I am "low on food" because foraging 1 snack is much harder than foraging pods of water, and the re-use timer isn't at all instant. I know this is a simple fix on my part, all I need to do is cast the summon food spell or have my mage summon me the good stuff, but I think foraging (especially since it is maxed out) should leave me with a sufficient amount of food that would not make me resort to the other means of obtaining food, especially as a treehugging class. And it has a sense of role-playing aspect to it as well.

Having maxed out forage and constantly being low of food, would it be at all possible to increase the amount of food foraged? If not, then perhaps the re-use timer, or some other means? I believe having maxed out forage should not result in me being out of food :(

Thanks for the consideration,
EDIT: Replies below are some test I started. Will keep them updated.

Even on my iksar monk whose forage skill is capped at 50 i never have had to buy a single piece of food from level 1 until now, and I am constantly having to delete excess food form my inventory to stay uncer weight. On my wood elf druid, the amount of food I forage is pretty much INSANE, and any increase in the amount would just cause me to delete stuff more frequently.

I was told halflings consume food at a much greater rate than some other races.

Right now I have sitting in my bag:

x96 Pod of water
x1 Root
x1 Squirril

I will delete everything and start over to see if it is just my luck, but i feel I'll get the same results.

Which results in me being "low on food" and always on the border of / or sometimes out, of food. I'll be getting metabolism AA's because maxed druid forage can not feed me. Every time I notice the Forage button repop I hit it. I do not believe that is how foraging skill should work, as minuscule a problem as this is. Giving this another test right now as I type this to see how it works out.

Thanks

Well, as a Ranger, I seem to forage about half food, half drink. *shrug*

One thing I'd try if I were you would be to buy some food (say, a stack of rations) and put them in your very first inventory slot. Then, keep foraging. See if the food piles up. I'm thinking you may end up constantly "throwing away the XXX you are eating" every time you forage something new, due to how your inventory is set up.

Does location matter? So far I have summoned 6 pods of Water and I have 6 "You have failed to locate any food"

x6 Pod of Water
0x food

:(
Tried in Athica then gfay.

EDIT: 20 minutes later and I am still "out of food". I foraged 1 mushroom which was instantly eaten though!

EDIT: x8 water x1 Root.

IIRC, Wiz upped the forage rate on water... I think a bit too much. I forage constantly on my druid, and my miner rogue is a wood elf just so I can leave her parked for a long time & not have to leave to get food/water. I end up destroying stacks of water, and she eats most of the food she forages.. on Kero, I keep a partial stack of every foraged food (giant bulbous roots even!) and destroy when I get full stacks, or send to a baker to make stuff. And I destroy 3-4 pods of water for every stack of food I send/destroy.

Lots of foraged stuff are snacks, but I usually try to eat things that are a meal. And still end up with lots more water than food.

I forage constantly on my ranger as well, and I seem to snag 3 water to 1 food. But, I never find myself running low on food. What I did was set up my first bag so it has 4 stacks of water and 4 stacks of food: 1 root, 1 squirrel, 1 berry, 1 vegetable. I don't do rabbit because it isn't foraged up very often at all. Regardless of this, after a couple hours of playing I end up destroying at least a bag and a half of food/water.

If you're having such serious food issues, I'd be more than willing to listsend you what I forage.

I think the problem is made worse by the fact that foraging also destroys a lot food. I've spent quite a bit of time playing a druid, and I'd say I've thrown away almost as much food as I've foraged, from picking up food to put in the first available inventory slot, or foraging a new food that ends up in the first available inventory slot. People have already mentioned a lot of foraged food is a snack, and players don't actually see that their character has eaten anything, so that first inventory slot usually ends up open.

Would it be possible to make food/water consume from the bottom of the bag, like arrows, to keep foraging (and summoning/trades/etc.) from destroying food?

This doesn't solve the problem, if anything it makes it worse. Put a full stack of food in your first slot, and you never destroy food, no matter how much stuff you loot or pick up before you forage that next piece of food.

If you do it from the end, then you have to put that stack in the last slot of your last bag, or if you loot enough to fill up the inventory slots before your food you're back to destroying food. Not only that, every time you forage up a new type of food, you destroy a piece regardless of if the thing before it was used up or not. With the current front to last order, you only destroy after you eat a piece.

FYI, arrows don't consume from the bottom of the bag, they consume the same way food does.

Arrows in my bags are consumed bottom-right corner first, then bottom-left, then the next row up right-to-left, and so on to the top row of a bag. However, arrows in bags near the top of my inventory are used before arrows in bags lower in my inventory.
