[Fomelo] Armor "Sets"

I am not sure how much work this would entail. However, I think being about to make different Armor sets on Fomelo would be very cool.

Characters Main set would work much like the way the site works now.

There would then be a pull down box for people to add different armor sets of their choosing. Some being: "Magic Resist Set", or "Dream Gear"

When in these armor sets the player could have the ability to change their gear by right clicking on the slot and replacing that item with something they have or something they do not.

I just think this would be a nice way for players to plan ahead for gear upgrades. It would also just be cool to see what the max hp/mana/ac is possible for someone to get.

Fomelo could use a lot of work. The "parchment" sidebar is fairly ugly and doesn't really have enough space for the text that can go into e.g. the Focus Effects tab, and the whole thing could stand to be a little more sleek and informative (stuff like accurate total damage/healing modifiers, avoidance chances, potential damage reduction, etc, are things I've thought about, and maybe a selectable set of buffs not unlike this idea).

But, we just don't have anyone sufficiently confident and/or motivated to do all the original PHP work that would be needed, or (especially) to update the art. It doesn't help that the fomelo code is arguably the messiest code we have (the html is just awful), and that's saying something. Maybe something like this could be shoved into the mix with minimal adjustments, but I'm not sure where the set selector and set creator inputs could go, or how picking an item to go in a slot could be handled. More to the point, would everyone be able to vandalize everyone else's sets? Adding a login to fomelo would be a pretty huge change, I'm sure. And there's the question of searching for items to put into your set--how to balance user-friendly searching against the possibility of people being able to scour the system for items that have yet to have their server first drops yet.

tl;dr it'd probably be a lot of work.

It picks up directly from the server what you are wearing, at set intervals of time afaik. Could there not be a simpler method of adding in a secondary and tertiary set via some sort of command in game that could tell Fomelo to save the current gear set in a secondary or tertiary format. Could be a hard coded "Your Character Name" or some other marker that can easily be searched for, or linked to from their fomelo page.

Limit it to no more then 2 backups, that way you could have 2 further gear sets saved for showing off as you see fit, without just letting people search the entire possible drop list to act as though they own some item they may never even see.

This however might still be too much work to want to bother with, if it can even be feasible, but it seems like it might be possible.

Yes there are 2 big problems I did think about. The first one might not be too bad if it just used the same username and password as your account.

The second would have to be controlled by a person however and that is a lot of ongoing work.

Would it be any easier to set up an Armory function on the wiki? Draft up a mock character and just pick out any piece of gear off the wiki to equip it with. Click a race, allocate a few points for starting ability scores, and put a search function on each armor slot. *shrug*

Might not jive with the wiki, I have no idea. My nerdery tends more towards the d20physical than the e-losophical.

does not jive. even if i managed to write something (which would take forever, since i'd have to adjust for pristine, if not expables and rec level) it would be incredibly resource intensive to the point i doubt the pages would even load.

i can fiddle with something SIMPLE along these lines on the wiki, but it would be SIMPLE.

EDIT: Not happening. We just updated the DPL2 plugin (the first update released in 2 years) but there is still a conflict with the Variables plugin. I can keep poking at this, but doesn't seem likely. It wouldn't have been what people wanted anyway.)

I used to have a lot of fun playing around on Magelo with armor sets. I'd have enjoyed playing around with Fomelo in the same way before I actually got all the gear I wanted.

i think if it was something simple it would make a "wish list" for people they can share with their guilds as well. Hey im after this etc. Chaotic winds did something similar but it was a long process.
