Fishing Mods

I am wondering if the fishing mods (+6 total) are buffed/broken atm. I skilled up to 200 (while wearing the +6 items) in PoT on Black murderfins -- which made them trivial to me. I then took the items off, and they were still trivial to me. Putting the items in the bank did not help either. So I think the fishing mods are either broken, or the mods stay with you no matter what (would destroying the mod items help?). If anyone could help me out I'd greatly appreciate it =).

On a side note, is there any way to regularly fish in PoA without swearing to Shriti?
 
Fishing mods don't change the trivial. They just let you catch 'higher' fish.

Eg. At 200 or w/e, a murdierfin goes trivial. So you can successfully catch this fish starting at xxx. (180? idk).
You put on the fishing mods, you can now catch this fish starting at 174 (+6 = 180).

Each time you catch a fish that isnt trivial, you have a chance to skill up.

So getting the mods gives you ~6 skill points worth of extra chances on every new fish.
