Feedback on Halloween Quest Requested

For those who have been with SoD for awhile, you know about the annual Halloween quest we have run. As we announced last year, our plan was to do away with that quest - it had run its course.

So we're looking at replacing it, and thought feedback might be helpful. What did you like about it? What didn't you like? A couple of caveats:

- This is not a means by which to get top-end loot. The reward(s?) will likely be designed similar to the previous quest. Please don't ask for uber loot on this :)

- It's designed to be fun and not mandatory

- Constructive feedback/criticism only, please :)

What i liked about it - actually doing a quest with limited time and no known information about the quest. masks were cool and should be something that continues to be implemented. finally using zones you would not normally use (granted they should give good exp if you're going to add a time sink. dont add a time sink to kaladim.

what i did not like about it - the first couple of attempts were extremely buggy and did not allow us to retry the event. basically if we died to something not of our fault we were told too bad so sad do the quest for someone else.

I never got the opportunity to do the event at the end of the quest due to schedules. This time around it would be interesting to have an end event that you could solo (would be different from the last one at least).

I agree with Nebi about most of his post. The masks were awesome (though some of those illusions it would have been cool to have not as no rent while the quest was active).

Getting the one mask + the braided hair clicky were super cool.

I still have fun with the mask freaking people out with the illusion and the hair clicky actually has some utility so that is very cool (never can have enough clickies!). I only was able to finish for one of my toons though, never had the time to go back through it for a second toon.

IIRC: The whole quest didn't have to be done by someone of high tier so that was nice that a lot of people could attempt to get it done (not to mention the flash market it created for the masks).

I liked how there were two halloween quests and nobody ever figured out the damn werewolf statues or whatever.

What is cmd transform?!?!?

Yeah, in terms of allowing any level to do it, and rewards being commensurate with level and effort, that is absolutely a design goal.

I actually found this to be one of the more enjoyable quests in the game. Not too long, but fun/interesting. Very social, as it had everyone buying/selling/trading masks.

The only think I would change would be to work on that event at the end. It doesn't need super loot, but maybe some unique illusions/clickies or something for getting far (It would be super cool if it could somehow check a raids average hp or exp or something, and base difficulty on that so its challenging but killable for all guilds). Also maybe make the end even engagable at any time once someone beat the quest? I know two years I didn't get to try the final even because people were learning how to do the quest, and it was hard to organize a raid after completing the quest within the timeframe.

Never ran it, even years ago when I played. When does it start and end; is it a day only event? Sounds fun. I hope to get around to it this year. Little fun clickies or what not is always fun to play with.

Never did the quest but did the final event for a few friends a few times. The fight was fun for sure.

Having a no rent item that becomes like a trading card for the quest was a great idea. IIRC the loot was decent for us too when we did it around tier 5-6-7 or whatever we were at that time.

One of the things I really enjoyed was being able to get loot from PoN while being pledged to Marlow. The boss fight is one of my fav's in game and how it keeps getting harder was super cool.

Perhaps keep the masks but at the end instead of just getting an eye mask, you can turn in one of the previous masks + quest item from event to an NPC, that then gives you a permanent version of the mask of your choice. I also enjoyed all the lore hints and running around to (sometimes) the far corners of Dalaya. I definitely think keeping the same theme with the end event is a good idea.

The best part of that quest is the ambiguous clues that lead you around to different little-used areas of little-used zones without explicitly giving you much information. I remember being one of the first few people looking for the last clues (duh Stormkeep bank rooftop), and the communication/competition of finding them was very fun. Its way better when the task you're trying to complete is not common player knowledge and its not on the wiki, its just a very specific clue created by a guy who knows the lore and the details of each zone more than almost anybody. Thats what really had my sense of avarice tinglin'.

EASIEST 200K I EVER GOT.

It's time to see my dream of a Gnome or Troll illusion item come true!
Gnome/Troll/Ogre clicky would be sweet (IIRC the old ogre mask was a must wear to maintain illusion but i think it has ammo on it so thats fine to personally wish all illusion clicky masks were changed to be like that)

No promises of illusions this time. :)

We have a concept and have started work on it based on feedback. Hopefully folks will enjoy it - we'll probably do some pre-events prior to its release just to help set the stage a bit. But expect something in the next few weeks, just in time for fall.

Here's an idea. Whatever event you run, maybe you can make wolves attack PCs in the event. If a PC get's bit, there is a chance of Lycanthropy. One of the negative affects of this is to eat through your inventory food at x10 the normal rate.

Also, if the wolves were to attack a city, like Athica, you could protect the citizens and guards. And if you change, the citizens and guards change their view of you. :)

The lottery NPC could change in to a flying vampire and murder .....everything. However, if it gets too close to the healer, the healer will cure the NPC automatically! Sorry ....my brain is going now.

Can't wait to try the new quest!

As a general idea, I like this. However, for this particular quest, it's supposed to be more fun than anything. Truthfully, fall is my favorite time of the year on this server - we tend to run more GM events, people are talking football in OOC (;)) and we get a new, temporary quest. As such, I am a little leery about altering peoples' appearance/faction/etc. substantially, though as a general quest idea I think it has some merit.

For an aside, I am totally putting an easter egg into the new quest. If someone finds it, post it here. It will make me very happy. :) No it's not significant, it's just something I really like about the game.
