Fear Spell from NPCs

Ok yeah fear is annoying and all but here is the major problem i have with it. Within 2 days of implementation, i died 6 times b/c of fear....5 of those were from falling through the world while feared in undercaverns. If the falling through the world continues IMO, its doing far more harm by bugs than the actual effect was intended.
 
Does the idea of having more than one possible effect of being feared appeal to the devs? Leave in the running away effect, hopefully with a slower run speed/clipping bugs removed, but other possible effects could include:

- The old fear effect, frozen in place can't cast etc (You cower in fear!)
- Complete stamina drain or -sta regen (Fear drains your will!)
- Mana Drain or - mana regen (Fear saps your energy!)
- A large slow

Any other ideas for possible effects?

Stamina is an absolute requirements for some classes and nothing for others. It would be a hugely uneven effect. Give the changes Wiz has already said he is going to do a chance. Then let's see what needs tweaked after that. Doing multiple changes at the same time can have unintended effects.

Having no stamina is no picnic for casting classes, but I agree that it is not as useful as for classes who depend on stances for changing their utility rather than spells.

Running away in fear is a somewhat uneven effect too however, a warrior could tank a mob or two or three while feared and running, they will lose hp and it will suck, but it's not a death sentence; a wizard or other squishy class can't.

Regardless, a -mana regen or mana drain would be a similar effect for classes that depend more on mana than stamina.
 
I think the key problems with NPC fear are:

a) Resistance - IE, lvl 20 mobs fearing lvl 65 PCs. Can I run to a lvl 65 zone and fear a mob there?

b) When feared you run through walls, drop through floors, etc. I don't think you realistically become Houdini when you are frightened. (Given that Fear tries to stay fairly realistic.) You pull many many more mobs when this happens.


There's a pro and con to reducing speed while under Fear effect. I can recognize only one pro to reduced speed under Fear, you can probably stay in range of healer. On the other hand, the con would be that you'd just be owned much faster as you wouldnt be hauling through the zone, you'd still be picking up mobs and most likely taking more hits(I'd think so anyways). If all you are willing to do is reduce the speed, it's better than nothing and I will appreciate the effort to make certain nuisances better. Thanks :)
