Do faction hits vary from creature to creature?

For example, if I'm trying to gain gobbie faction in Sun Mines, do I receive the same amount of faction for killing a lesser imp as I do a greater one? Or is the difference large enough to make the greater one worthwhile to kill?

Trying to decide whether to mass pull the lesser ones with a DS or go kill the harder ones one at a time.

It can vary yes. I don't know if it does in your particular case, but it very much happens in other places.

Get a group for firegrotto, or if you can, emberflow. Both will increase your faction much faster.

He is probably killing goblins for exp/loot at the same time. In which case I always found it easier to fix faction to just mass pull all the lesser imps.
