Faction Bound item question.

I was wondering exactly what "Faction Bound" meant on an item? For example: I have the Newport gate necklace. If I were to drop from ally status with the citizens (IE - I kill them), would I lose the ability to equip it?

Im pretty sure that's exactly what it means. Kill guards in newport and lose ally faction, the neck item will poof.
 
I think for factionbound items if you drop below amiable you lose the item. Might be different now but I definitely remember reading something along those lines a while ago.
 
You don't LOSE the item, you just can't equip it (or use it, in the case of amulets). I'm allied with giants, and have full draconic armor... if I lose my faction with them, i.e. kill dragons, I won't even have any armor to use unless I got my faction back up.

That's how I understand it works.

Which is why you can get to a certain point in the quest for gate necks to cities and use the Alliance spell to get the neck.

No, no . . . in my experience, you would LOSE the item. You would log on and see the message: "your ornate draconic stormforged platemail chestplate has crumbled to dust" and then you'd not find it in your inventory. You would then have to not only improve your faction, you would have to collect another set of gems and bp if you wanted your stuff back. (Same with the neck, same with the faction bound upgrades to dhk items.)

It wouldn't really make sense otherwise, since at least for the neck clickies, you don't have to actually EQUIP them to get them to work.

yeah that sure sucked :( i remember logging my mage in the first time after this changes... and instantly saw 3 necks crumble to dust :(
 
You will lose a FB item after a certain point. Necks I'm pretty sure are ally only and if you drop below ally, you'll lose it but I can't say that's 100% because I don't have the first hand experience. However I know for a fact..or I think I do.. that if your faction drops a level from ally, your FB gear will not poof. I know Xardon got screwed over one day when he gated to DHK only for people to be there, engaged with a dragon, it AE'd, and it hit him and his pet took off after the dragon, hence he took a faction hit and had to refarm a shit load of heads to get back to ally. However I don't recall him ever mentioning the loss of his FB gear during it or whether or not his neck poofed. Right now however I do want to vaguely recall he said he couldn't equip the gear.

As far as the armor quest stuff goes, /shrug. All I can say about that is is at least one person out there is convinced that they could care less if their faction was shot because they have all the combine armor they need. But maybe combine armor isn't really a giant/dragon thing and it's a prison thing, which I think it is and I'm sure lots can verify. I've seen the quest npc for it myself in prison after being ported there one day for apparently no reason whatsoever out of the clear blue sky after I had just zoned to south badlands and took a step and off I went. I thought I did something wrong and had been jailed and was stumped for 15 minutes on why I would be jailed before I realized where I was at.

So, maybe it's just the ornate and draconic that would poof.
