F2P Epidemic

Yet another highly popular P2P game is going F2P, can you guess which? I find it interesting they are doing it after the game has been around for like 11 years.

Its way to cycle people through an extended trial and it's not really f2p. It's dual subscription;
1. Go regular subscription and get everything, except expansions
2. Go pay as you go and get access to
- 4 races - Barb, human, erudite, and gnome
- 4 classes - War, cleric, wizard, and something, probably rogue.
- 4 bag slots
- 4 character slots - I think
- bank limits including 8k max pp
- Everything to the last expansion and level 90 and ... wait for it... 250 aas

A $5 one time fee gets you access to another 750aas. This is a game where some classes have over 16000 aas. Also, progression group and raid gear will be flagged as only usable with a paying account, though you may be able to pay for unlocks by the piece who knows.

So I'm expecting that it will probably be priced so that all these things are unlock-able for a small fee, if you want to chose. But most will just go full subscription, if they stick around long enough to begin to care.

does this mean people will be able to get EQ client for free easily?
P.S. Whats up sayen

Hey Dre. Just trying to get by and failing as usual.

The F2P move for EQ just seems more like a final money gathering. Thoses with subs will continue to have them (to prevent losing the ability to play their character0 and the people coming for F2P action will shop at the store and make purchases. Beat the dead horse till it is maggot infested I suppose. :psyduck:

So this transition happens tomorrow.

I'm planning on logging in and messing with my old chars. Any one who had a previous subscription automatically gets the silver level. And any characters that previous existed are grandfathered in, so even with just silver you can still play that Ogre Shadowknight you made in 2006.

Is this Original Everquest or EQ2? You're talking about playing characters made in 2006, but what about ones made in 2000 :)

I am pretty sure(like 75%?) that it is like EQ2 and they made a new server for F2P purposes(The Vox Server), so I don't think you can play your old characters but I am not 100% sure.

EDIT: After further inspection I don't think this is the case. Gonna try and log into my Mage and Bard when I get back to my house and my computer. The problem might be that they have too many AAs and they might have "prestige gear" but I don't know what qualifies as that. The info chart for F2P is similar to the EQ2 one, and can be found here:

http://everquest.com/free

EDIT2: You might get upgraded to Silver automatically if you have an inactive account from back in the day.

EDIT3: I logged in and all my augs were flagged "prestige" and it won't let me get any more AAs since I have 5k out of a maximum of 1k. Same for both of my characters. Oh well.

Haha, wow. I didn't realize you needed so many AAs, so yeah that 1000 cap can really limit you.

The augments being prestige kinda sucks too. Even something as small as a 4 wis one is prestige.

The change that made me saddest the most, you can't start anywhere but Crescent Reach now. I guess you can just take the PoK and go elsewhere but it doesn't feel quite the same.

logged in and my epic is prestige

was nice to /claim like 2mounts and abunch of other random crap though and destory all my raid augs with 10p solvents

Haha, my account is banned. When asked why, they said there was a credit card dispute and that if I was to get unbanned I would have to pay for what charges were fought for originally. Being 25 now, I was around 13 when I played EQ, I guess my mom got pissed and refuted some EQ bills way back when. Fucking A!

They have trouble with their accounts department, especially recently since they got hacked and all the players' private information was stolen. They now require all kinds of jumping through hoops just to login but they messed it up.
