expansions required?

Old EQ'er checking in, got a single question before trying out Shards though, exactly which expansions do i need to have installed ? since .. well i stopped playing right as PoP came out and i really dont have that not LoY or LDoN...

Run EverQuest.exe and let the EverQuest patcher do its thing. IMPORTANT: Click the "Advanced" tab and select all expansions up to and including Lost Dungeons when patching. This is necessary to be able to play the server.

now.. which addons do i need to install ? "Install everquest" is rather non descriptive :p im aware that i need to select the patching up to and including LDoN, it does however not tell me that i NEED those addons installed .. since i havent had my eq installed for several years now im just curious if i need to aquire the addons im missing or not in order to play on shards.

not trying to be jackass or anything, really just wondering if i can play with JUST eq, kunark, scars of velious and shadows of luclin or if i need more addons installed ?

All you really need installed is the orginal EQ, in fact, if i remember all you need is a specific .exe file that runs the patcher, and through that you can DL all the other expansion files.

So just run the patcher, and after its done, hit the advanced tab, then make sure that Kunark, Velious, Luclin, PoP, LoY, and LDoN are all checked, then run the patcher again =)
 
Thanks Arik, i was remembering exactly that, the fact that you could receive the updates etc thru the patcher even if you didnt have the addon itself installed, hence my question.

Thanks again, gonna install once i get off work..
 
I believe all you really need is the newer EQ patch program. The really old school Kunark one wont work.

Very much true, i found out when i installed from my kunark cd's :mad: fortunately hitting up The Company for it and checking the knowledgebase gave way to finding the new patcher in a dl and going from there :D

Much rejoicing and so forth now that im actually playing the game yay!!
 
Wow-nice way to welcome a new member who asks an honest question. Step down from your high horse, add to the community and try to be helpful for no reason at all except that it helps someone. Really, it wont kill you. Actually, if you dont want to be helpful, not responding at all is easier.

I too just recently installed so I could play on SoD, and I too was wondering what exactly it meant by "up to LDoN" in the installation instructions.


DuneWarrior-What worked for me was using the advanced tab during install and clicking on every expansion that occurred chronologically up to and including LDoN. Might be overkill, regardless it worked.

EQ
Kunark
Velious
Luclin
PoP
LoY
LDoN


Since its been YEARS since most of us have played the game, I for one, didnt remember which expansion came before or after the next..I ended up having to go to sony's site to find out. Perhaps a simple list like above would be helpful in the installation instructions.
