Error 1017!

I have had the weirdest errors today, but lets start from the very beginning (some of this information may be irrelevant, but I'll let you decide). I had the Raego glitch where if you die or let it wear off with that one buff on and have a base hp of less than 1300, you die and get stuck on the returning to homepoint screen. I had this fixed with a GM's help. I've been having nothing but errors from then on (again, don't know if they are related though.)
It first started happening after that event yesterday, where I would try to zone and every so often I would get kicked to either the logon screen or the server list. When I would try to log back on, I would select the SoD server. About 75% of the time I would, again, get kicked back to the logon or server select, and the ERROR: 1017 message would pop up (something about needing to repatch or having a bad connection with the patch server). After about four or so tries, it would let me back on and I would continue doing my thing (this happened several times, at first pretty commonly).
It was random and uncommon enough that I just simply avoided zoning when I could. After a few more occurrences that night, it simply stopped happening and appeared to fix itself.
Today, I logged on this morning into Western Plaguelands (don't know if that matters) with some pretty bad lag. I asked everyone else about it, and they seemed to generally say that they were feeling no lag on their end. I died once, and it took me a whole 10 or so minutes of retrying to connect the server (meaning countless 1017 errors) to get back on. This happened every time I tried to zone without fail. After about 2 hours of playing, I zoned and never was able to log back on. I would select my server and keep getting the 1017 error after a brief 10 or seconds of my desktop showing.

Things I have done:
-Restarted the computer (countless times)
-Full repatch (countless times)
-Reinstalled EQ Titanium (once, and then did a full SoD repatch again)
-Opened all the ports I could find that SoD used (I didn't have to do this before, decided to try anyway)
-Assured my connection was solid (very solid)

Anything else I should try before I go /wrists? :(

Check if you have anything else running that might be eating your bandwidth. For example, vista will often download updates in the background and that absolutely could cause lag or 1017s.

Also, you might have a solid connection but if you have intermittent slowdowns due to throttling or intermittent heavy shared use, such as a neighbor who also has a cable modem transferring 500 meg over the internet, you could see this problem.

I'm assuming you're not on a wireless card. If you're on a wireless card, I'd not consider that a solid connection.

I have a hard connection from computer, through cable, to modem. It was interesting how around midday the problem stopped again. It got to be around 12:30am (central I think) and I started to get some bad lag again. I was in the same zone for a quite a bit and decided to refresh. I did /cm refresh, began to zone, and it booted me out before I finished zoning. Now I'm getting the same error. I guess this does all agree with the "bad internet connection" theory, but I've never had this problem before in the whole 2ish week I've been playing (straight.... ugh lol). Any other theories?

I tried an internet speed test and here are the results:
download speed: 2460kps
upload speed: 500kps

I realize these are sometimes cheap and unreliable (then again, it's a really simple test) but those numbers should be good enough for SoD and then some right?

If you really want to see if it's you, run that test when you're getting the 1017 errors.

Basically the server does sometimes get slow if there are 500 other players on, but if other people in the zone are having no problems, it's probably you.

Ideally, I'd suggest running a speed/bandwidth test over a 48 hour period to see if it's intermittent, but I don't know of any software that will do that.

I play from Australia and normally have 350/400--600/2200 ping numbers from the f11 display. Over the last two days, this has also been happening to me when I try and log in. Takes a few times to successfully get past the server select but once done, I will be fine.
