Error 1001

Dalayan Beginner
Went LD at around 2pm (est) haven't been able to get past login since, keep getting "Error 1001 cannot connect to Everquest server at this time, please try again later." Repatched all, still same problem, this happen all of the sudden and i have no clue why it would happen (also happend to 2 other guildys at same time). Searched forum, nothing recent or any soultions that i found. What happened? Why? Do i have to reinstall? (Gdamit i just did that after PL bug fix, which didnt fix anything and i had to get wired net to get this working again.)

Bout 15 hours later i'm finally able to get back in game, was in for like 20 mins, zoned twice and got kicked to server select, now after i hit Enter World on charater select, splash screen comes up and then i get booted back to server select after a few seconds.

Do you have any firewalls enabled, if so, you will have to disable them, or open a bunch of ports in it. The only time I have seen that error before, it was firewall related.

Windows XP, only use windows firewall and w/e my router has, this never happened before. Disabled it just to test and same thing.

Still think ping'ing the server would have been your best option to find out what is wrong, atleast you would know if your able to "connect" to it at all (thats where i would start to search for the problem).

Windows firrewall is a waste of resources, any script kid can defeat that, much less a real hacker. Actual hardware routers, however, are a different story. Snake is right, try to ping, and see if you can get through. But it is most likely a port issue with the router, depending on the make of the router, you'll either have to make an exception for the program, or open up the ports. Not certain which are used here, though. (I know live could use any port from 2500+, and would change from the log-in to the world server, just to be extra annoying.)

This comp is for surfing net (pron!) and SoD don't use it for anything else. Haven't really used anything other than what i have running (antiv/fw) never had a prob (pirated xp sp3), if a hacker wants to get into my system, there really isn't anything im gonna be able to do to stop him/her, and don't trust pay shit in my eyes those mofo's are the real virus/hacks.

I appreciate any feedback, but i would rather you post any suggestion thats technical to be followed with a quik howto, you already think im a id10t, and this is Tech Support no?

Suggest to ping with an address or ip, or steps to open the cmd and the correct command line would be =3

Unblocking Ports, which ones? live crap don't help!
What makes you think my router decided to block now? Spontaneous SoD port cock blocking? smells fishy...

So i can connect, now what?

Wouldn't this issue have occurred before? and continue to occur (Yay!)

I haven't changed anything and ive been fine for last 2-3 days.

I agree, it seems odd that it was working and then all of the sudden stopped working. I can't tell you with any certainty what that means, but sometimes a reinstall of the game will fix random problems. Have you tried that?

Happened again today around 2:20pm (Est) , again im not only person getting this error at same time, repatched all, nada, pinged www.shardsofdalaya.com, fine, restarted router, same crapola, really lame if i have to reinstall everytime i have this issue. Would like to know what causes this to happen all of a sudden, was online for hours and i mean hours, relogged ina few times no prob what so ever, get into a raid, not 10 minutes into it client crashes and now this error.

Lame Lame Lame

Go to Start -> Run -> Type "cmd" # Without quotes

Then at the command prompt type;

pathping -n www.shardsofdalaya.com >> output.txt
ping www.shardsofdalaya.com >> output.txt

Open output.txt with notepad or wordpad.
Cut and paste the whole results here.

Also, if you get the error once you absolutely should
restart the client. It doesn't clear up even though the condition
which caused it may be gone.

Another thing. Most people ask for those seeking help to check their firewall settings.
Just show them;
# Show windows firewall ports on a local computer
# If you have admin access to a remote computer
# "psexec netsh firewall show portopening" should probably do it.
#
# You will need to execute powershell in admin mode.
# Start key -> Accessories -> Powershell
# Right click powershell and run as admin
#
# At this point, powershell is set not to execute scripts for your protection
# (I know right) But you still want to check.
# type> get-executionpolicy
#
# It will probably return "Restricted". If it returns "RemoteSigned" or
# "UnRestricted" you can proceed to the last step. If restricted;
# type> set-executionpolicy RemoteSigned
#
# At this point, cut and paste this into notepad and save it as something
# firewallports.ps1 and execute ./firewallports.ps1

Function Get-EnabledRules
{
Param($profile)
$rules = (New-Object -comObject HNetCfg.FwPolicy2).rules
$rules = $rules | where-object {$_.Enabled -eq $true}
$rules = $rules | where-object {$_.Profiles -bAND $profile}
$rules
}

$networkListManager = [Activator]::CreateInstance([Type]::GetTypeFromCLSID([Guid]"{DCB00C01-570F-4A9B-8D69-199FDBA5723B}"))
$connections = $networkListManager.GetNetworkConnections()
[int[] ] $connTypes = @()
$connTypes = ($connections | % {$_.GetNetwork().GetCategory()})
#$connTypes += 1
Write-Host $connTypes

$connTypes | ForEach-Object {Get-EnabledRules -profile $_ | sort localports,Protocol | format-table -wrap -autosize -property Name, @{Label="Action";expression={$_.action}}, @{Label="Protocol"; expression={$_.protocol}}, localPorts, remotePorts, applicationname}

Your connection is dropping on the second hop in the first traceroute and the fourth on the second.
Are you connecting from England?

The 25.0.0.0/8 class A is allocated to the UK MoD by ARIN. And the other ips are on
64.15.0.0/20 allocated to Cablevision.

Using assigned routable IPs for "sekrit" company networks
is really bad. There is a whole class A ( millions of frigging addresses)
reserved just for this type of thing.You are probably getting some routing
conflicts.

I am getting the error 1001 as well. I have tried fresh installs of EQ and Sod (four times over the last few weeks). I'm running windows 7 and understood almost nothing of the posts before mine. Can anybody help? Please and thank you.
