EQ2 F2P

No, SoE is just retarded and instead of taking the Good aspects of EQ and making them into EQ2, they just fuck EQ and made a game with some familiar names, and terrible systems of questing, advancement, gearing, learning skills, pretty much just made a terrible game when they had the opportunity to make something amazing with just as much if not more longevity than its predecessor. And then Vanguard was supposed to be that upgrade to EQ1, and it turned into probably the worst MMO ive ever played, aside from Lineage2 / Guild Wars (because rightclick to autofollow with autoattack on totally makes for a fun game)

Lord of the Rings is F2P now too, so if there are any Tolkien fans out there, they may want to check it out. Unlike EQ2, you are free to play until level 50, cap is 65. You can play in all the zones except zones for the Moria and Mirkwood expansions, which of course are 50+ zones. No equipment is kept from F2Pers, but they are only allowed to have 2 of the 5 virtues, which in all honesty are not of any grave importance until after level 50. You will be limited on mail use and you can only buy from the AH and not sell. Other than that, you would not be gimped.

The online store allows you to purchase the added virtues, the expansion packs, the AH full use, and mail full use, along with other "fun items." This is should you do decide to continue playing. So if you enjoy Tolkien as much as I do, come and check us out. Very quiet, mature players, not much in the form of /ooc chat, chat usually stays within guilds and private/group chats. Misfits of Middle Earth is where I hang out on the Gladden server should you decide to check out the game and need help, look us up!

I'm not saying this is for everyone, but it is free and really does no harm in checking it out.

how do you get a product key to play LotR for free? or do they not hand those out until the 10th?

You should be able to just down load the game from the main website, it is not until the 11th though, so that could be why it's asking for a product key. Still seems odd as there was always a free trial, it just used only last for a month. PM me if you still cannot get into the game and I'll see if I can help you out.

Yeah, my issue was trying to log in before it technically went to free play. Oops, but I got in after that. Also being told that eventually free players would have to buy quest packs to keep playing. I was told you can make it to around 25 before free quests run out. I didn't look at how to buy the quest packs.

If it's cash only, that kinda sucks. Because the game will be nearly as dead in the high levels as it was before they went free-play. If you can spend Turbine points which you get almost constantly while you play (oh you completed 5 quests, here's 10 points!) then that wouldn't be so bad. But like I said I haven't looked into it.

I also heard rumor about smart use of subscribe buy-in/out. Get characters to 20, subscribe for 1 month and buy your mounts and other stuff for cheap, then unsubscribe. You keep some or all of the perks (like full bag space, more characters slots, maybe shared bank, etc etc yadda yadda). It's hearsay but something worth looking into for people willing to drop 15 bucks on the game.
