After trial and error getting an eqmain.dll error on initial load up, I figured out the problem. Simply, the new Nvidia drivers do not work with EQ, atleast on my three computers at home. Stating this just so people know what to look for in the future, here are the search terms: eqmain.dll nvidia drivers

Now to the main point, I visited the website and they said the recommend drivers were the Forceware 61.77 for the Nvidia Geforce 1/2/3/4/TNT2 line. Maybe these are good for EQ, but after using the new drivers on my computer for other programs, I couldn't go back.

Now, does anyone have a driver recommendation for that line of cards, preferably the newest ones that work with EQ, which I would guess is around 80.00. I would try some out, but changing drivers is never a good idea. And don't reply with your Quadro, RIVA, or your 7800 drivers, I don't care.

I consider myself fairly computer literate, but if I am missing something here that is more in detail with drivers, feel free to spot me. By the way, I just said EQ to get to the point, the software in general.

DLL's for your game install could be corrupted too. Here's what I would try:

1. Download DLL Pack -> http://www.chaoticwinds.net/files/dllpack.zip
2. Open the zip file, jot down or just remember all the names of the DLL's there.
3. Find those DLL's in your EQ-SoD install directory and DELETE them.
4. Install/Extract the DLL's in the zipped folder to your EQ-SoD directory.

Try running the game again.

Alright, tried the new DLLs and no success. Even went through installing the drivers step by step (alot of restarts) and still nothing. Though, I was looking at dxdiag and I failed a couple of the tests, Direct3d in particular. I failed 7, 8 and 9

DirectDraw is fine though, and lastly, AGP Texture Acceleration is 'Not Available'. Enable is just grayed out.

Sounds like a driver issue to me. Assuming you've already downloaded the appropriate driver for your card, I would do the following:

1. Right click on My Computer
2. Select Manage, that will open Computer Management
3. Select Device Manager
4. On the right, expand your Display adapters
5. Select your video card, right click on it, select Uninstall
6. Reboot your computer

After it reboots it should re-detect your card again, install the appropriate driver, and reboot your computer again.
Once that is done, run dxdiag again and run the same tests. See if you still get the error.

just for to be sure of a few things not to cause you any hasle but open that directx tool back up and run the tests and post the new dxdaig.txt here

also try this after you do that, when you open the Shards of Dalaya patcher click advanced hit patch all, turn eqw off close the advanced options part of the window then click the patch/run button. after thats finshed and you hop into the loading screen see if it crashs or not and then report back here

Well, I already posted the results in the post two above the dxdiag. None of the direct3d worked.

On that note as well, I am not going to go about testing what you recommended, because that would be a problem with SoD, which it's not anymore I guess. I simply have no 3d capability with the new drivers. I would happily do that, but I am on the old drivers again and would have to reinstall. Tested on other games with no success.

But, not trying to turn down your help, the results you are looking for are up there in the...third?...post.

I realize it's turned into a graphics card problem, but as I said years ago, where better to get help then a forum with 1000+ computer nerds.

Looks like you're using a Dell Dimension 4300?? ... I would go to Dell's site, log in with your Dell account, or do a search by drivers and downloads by the Service Tag number located somewhere on the machine (typically the back or bottom on a laptop). I would use the recommended/updated driver from them.

Oh I should have thought about it ! did you install the Hyperion (4in1) drivers from VIA ? I suppose your mobo is VIA since you have soundmax audio. And these drivers have an updated AGP driver that might help.
I saw this post long ago but didn't think of that, hope it's not too late.
