Dot stacking.

I was wondering if DoT stacking may ever be implemented, on live you can stack spells of the same line, for example rangers you could do locust swarm and drones of doom, necros you could use 2 poison dots from the same line. I am just wondering if this has or is being discussed, because it sure makes for slow killing using 1 dot at a time if pretty much all you have is 1 dot line.
 
Um... not sure I get your point, honestly.

Shaman have two dot lines: Poison and Disease. 550hp/tick and 100.

Necros can stack 5? dots.
 
They're talking about stacking dots that are in the same spell line. I think not being able to stack dots in the same line was an intentional act. It might (MIGHT!!!!) make spellcasters unbalanced, and thats something Wiz doesn't want.
 
you could stack poison with poison, or disease with disease? will check with it sometime on my shaman...
 
You can stack DoTs of the same level only. Lower level dots won't stack with the high same damage type versions.

Example: If a mob has caress of sivyana on it (poison dot), envenomed bolt (lower level poison DoT) will not take hold.

Example: If a mob has caress of sivyana on it, and someone else casts caress on it, both should stack.

thats what i mean... that you could do that on live, but not here.
 
On Live, I could stack the fire dots for my necro (pyro, funeral pyre)-- that was kind of neat, because they were somewhat low aggro, but long lasting DOTS.

Poison I never really tried stacking, because I kinda liked to live...I wil let you know when I am high level enough to cast different level dots here :)
 
For Necros on Live DoT stacking had two phases, pre-50 and post 50. From 51 on all DoTs stacked except the snare line. Pre 50 Heat Blood line would not stack with others in the line. Heart Flutter was the same. The Poison and disease based DoTs would. This may have changed since it has been many years since I was a sub 50 necro. The Necro has so many avenues to inflict damage though that the loss of a 12 levels or so old DoT is not missed in the slightest.

All Shaman DoTs stack on Live and have for many years I think still release. This is probably due to the Shaman being rather low on the DPS scale.
 
Basically on WR, DoTs will stack depending on their resistance. disease, poison, fire(heat/boil line), magic(snare/dot) so as a necro, thats what...4ish DoTs? Maybe more that I am missing. Also, if there are say, 2 necromancers in a group, both lvl 65, casting the same DoTs, they will stack(Im 99% sure about this)
 
Necro get multiple spell lines over each resist type. Splurt, Horror, Darkness, Undead DoT, and the Leach lines all hit magic resist. (Horror I know is not in WR that I can see.) Heat Blood line ends at Ignite Blood and no longer effects Pyro, FPOK, Night Fire, or Mori.

Now I have had a Leach and a snare going at the same time I am sure both hitting magic. But my big concern is in the fire area. FPoK and pyro make up alot of a Necros DPS for a period. Even after hitting 65th Pyro can still make the list when doing long aggro kites. So I am curious does WR place dramatically different stacking rules to their DoTs?
 
If you are in a group with a tank you will need to periodically FD.
It's my experience (on Live) that it's better to feign before you get aggro, sure it limits your DPS, but makes the tank's life 100% better.

I am not sure about WR, but on Live poison dots were huge aggro, but FP+Pyro wasn't as bad as one would think.

...Or maybe I was just used to grouping a lot with trigger happy nukers! :lol:

Can't wait to be high level here to see what the differences are :)

Sorry for being unclear, and I have been gone for a few days, yes I mean stacking in the same line the necro was just an example, I have noticed with the druid mr dots that only the upper lvl dot will take effect and overwrite any other dots, for example on live you could cast on the mob stinging swarm, drones of doom, locus swarm, granted my druid is not high lvl but I know that if i cast stinging swarm, then a higher lvl magic dot it immedietly cancells the lower lvl one, on live this was not the case you would get the benefit of both doing damage. another example is the necro lifetap over time line, on live you can cast more than one onb the mob, it will do the damage of each but only return the benefit of the recourse hp of the highest line to the caster, so if you say casted a 10 hp leach and a 20 hp leach(just an example) it would do 30 damage to the mob per tic, but only return 20 hp to the caster. None of this is a huge deal, i just notice on my druid it takes quite alot of time to kill somthing my 2 dot lines at pre 24 are 3 damage and 13 then at 24 they became 3 and 21. would be much nicer to be able to stack the 3 13 and 21. its not necessary but would be nice, if it doesnt happen oh well i still like the game. P.S. with DoT stacking on live how it is is they all stack , 2 shamans could cast the exact same dot on a mob and they both do damage you could cast as many of the same line of dots as you have on 1 mob so if you had 5 of the same swarm type damage they would all stack on one mob. if i am unclear at all please let me know.
