donating, donatoritems and events

Let me start of by saying that I've been a donator for quite a few years now. In the beginning when my economy was less allowing I was silver and today I'm a platinum donator.

During the years that I've played and donated, the game has really developed and a lot of cool and interesting things have happened. This in itself is a good reason to donate and I don't intend to stop doing so.

However, I remember a few years back now, when one day all donators logged on to find they had received a special surprise, a "box of angry halflings". This was a really fun item, and I remember feeling really appreciated for donating, and this was actually something that made sure I stayed a donator back then.

Lately, unfortunately there hasn't been that many things happening for donators in game, and this is something I'd really like to see change. For example, the donator items hasn't changed or been updated to reflect other changes in game and this is a small thing that wouldn't hurt.

Anyways, I have a few suggestions for things that I would love to have happen. I will keep donating no matter what, but if any or a few of these things came through it would make me feel a lot more appreciated for doing so :)

Suggestion 1: Since the gold-item was put into game a lot of other "t-boots" have been added to the game and today I don't think many donators actually use their boots of the gold donator that often. There are currently atleast two different droppable tboots ingame with casttime: instant. At the same time the boots of the gold donator has a cast time of 15.0. If this casttime could be lowered that would be awesome.

Suggestion 2: If some random things could happen for donators, perhaps at the same time as account/donator drives is happening that would be great. For example some random new present appearing in inventory when you log on once a year or so (or why not a special xmas present).

Suggestion 3: I'd like to see a subforum on here only for donators. In them developers could perhaps invite donators to get a chance to betatest new things first. I'm not saying non-donating players shouldn't get to participate in beta-testing new content (they should), but if donators were asked first now and then I know that is something atleast I would really appreciate. This would also serve as a good forum for developers to get feedback on their content and to gather betatesters.

Suggestion 4: Some events happening for donators only or where donators were invited first now and then would be really nice.

There are most likely tons of other really nice things that could happen or things that could be updated. Any new things happening or being added would be great and if some developer has some ideas I think we would all appreciate it!

Thanks for your time.

I agree donator items could probably be improved.

This is a pretty terrible idea though.

I can't even get people to beta test things and you don't even have to be a donator =(

i could careless cause i donate off and on. the subforums for beta is a bad idea imo. Donar events sound like a good idea. The boots i hardly ever use as a druid its much faster to just cast refugee wolf form. i use the pocket plane to buy people the bag and every now and again Tradeskill on my alt. and the scarecrow i use around newbs as a hey look at me... cool huh? become a donator and you can do this too type thing.

As a wizard with tome of the swift 2 done that uses his gold donator boots pretty much every day, I'd love a reduction in the cast time.

As far as the beta testing thing goes, I'm going to have to call "not applicable to SoD". The rare times a dev wants a beta testing raid force, they want a guild that is used to working together to test it. As far as current beta testing, there are open positions available now to whomever that aren't even full (hi 3.0).

I don't much care for the idea of "you need to pay to get the most out of the game", and donator-only events seems like a move in that direction... but who knows, maybe I'll figure out something to put in donator stockings this Christmas...

Edited to add: oh, keeping track of all donator issues is a several hours a week unpaid headache for me already, I'm not going to add in "change forum access for donators when they donate every other month" to that list. What would we put in our donator-only subforum anyway?

Remember that it is very important to never "sell power." Convenience, yes, if you're careful about it, but never power. So mostly what you want to give people are random flavor items that are just "neat." For example, if I had a clicky that made me into that unicorn from the Equestrian Concoction, that would be MAJESTIC.

I think refreshing things a bit would be a good idea, even though the items aren't really the "point" of being a donator.

I thought a nice donator bonus might be a translocator in the pocketplane instead of just the mop with the caveat of it only being able to send you to cities. Also it might be cool to restructure the donator pricing, maybe bringing the costs down combined with updated benefits might net more donators overall.

This is a good point.

I havent played SoD in at least probably 2 years. Wondered why they put a wizard in front of the MoP portal... Oh. It was ridiculously annoying on my human to make it through the Mop cause he cant see.

Make the Mop, slightly more annoying. Donators get a rune that casts a buff making them non kos to MoP Portal people and immune to MoP effects. Also gives them a speed boost. Can only be used inside MoP, buff lasts until zone. Add a guard in the center of the fountain (near entrance of MoP) that pivots 360 degrees around fountain, turning like 30 degrees every 15 seconds. Add 2 wisps to the fountain that move on a single line-pattern from the center of the fountain to the edge of the pool. (Stops people with levi from just running past).

I dont know if this is possible? Add trap inside of the entrance of the mop that everyone must ran past that slows. Donators are immune to this spell?

ADDING content just to make donators gain a benefit isn't rewarding them, it's just punishing non-donators

Just let me say, I for one REALLY appreciate the efforts put into donator issues and I personally think these efforts and the donator items are more than sufficient. Even if there were no rewards I wouldn't change my mind about donating.

i would love to see this happen! (the translocator) but i mean all in all the very fact that i can play a good mmorpg and not have to pay for expansions etc etc i dont mind donating when i can. if i wasnt playing SoD which is free i'd be playing something stupid like Rift for money. so just the fact my small donation helps keep a free server free( well technically just running since you cant "charge" is good enough in my books
