Does FG have loot? And if so, is the loot all junk?

Why does nobody goto FG? (Fire Grotto)

I went there to solo and once i learned a few things (by dying once and zoning 3 times) i figured out i can solo there ok. I make 3% aa exp from each kill which is better than eldenals since it was nerfed.

The kills are pretty hard tho so i havnt been since.

But im wondering why nobody knows it or says they hate it. Why do strong groups not form up to go there?

I suspect the loots are to blame or people are maybe just wusses. But if it is an ok place for a strong group to get decent exp, then maybe some changes to the loot would make it more popular. Kinda seems a waste to have a zone sitting there which is empty 99.9% of the time.

I've done one run through of all the nameds in the zone. From what I saw the risk vs. reward wasn't very good. We managed to take out Melwin (very tough one group fight) and the drop was very disappointing. I'd say most people go there to find spies and that's about it.

You might get more xp per kill there then in eldenals but the time 1 kill takes in FG is about the same as 2-3 eldenals kills wich is like 6% AA xp. So not only the loot sux the xp per hour is kinda low compared to eldenals still.

That's really just hyperbole but don't let that stop you.

The loot is unspectacular.
The kills:time ratio vs eldenals is lower. (for soloing, hard finding a group that wants to go there, harder finding the right group to actually kill the high mobs that want to go there)
Nearly everything has a 30pt damage shield.
Nearly everything comes in 2 and 3's.
Repop time is like 20 minutes.
It's way out in the middle of nowhere if you can't catch one of the 2 or 3 druids or wizards on the server with the port spell.

I think this zone is pretty cool. The mobs are challenging and you have to be careful of what you do. It reminds me alot of the old school classic EQ I used to play. Whether thats the zone itself or the new mob layout, I dont know. This is not a zone I goto because I am looking for the best XP possible and I appreciate it as is. If I want a nice zone to explore with some friends, maybe get some spells, maybe some unexepcted loot and pick up a decent amount of xp this is the best zone on the server.

I think the loot is under appreciated!! Its not your straight up +500 HP +100 AC kind of items. But they are definately worth the time in most cases:

PS: I really look forward to the last mob being added :)
PSS: Its hard for me to explain why I like this zone so much, but its engaging. Look at the story involved in traveling to this far away zone and not the game mechanics. This is not another zone with lumps of XP to be claimed (Netherbian Lair, Velks, etc) and I love it.

I must second diolas' post. Melwin was a very tough lvl 65, and his loot was very weak.

It was that necklace that dropped when we killed him. Thing is: no one wanted it, not even as backup gear. I'm not sure the comparison is completely valid but other lvl 65 mobs I can single group drop much better gear.

FG exp sucks solo, I'll give you that. It's not designed for soloing.

It's more efficent exp in a group, because FG mobs actually have fairly low HP, a big exp boost, etc.

As for it being too far away is laughable. You can use the sro rift and be in plaguelands in the time it takes to run to Elds. Then you're five minutes away.

As for Melwin's loot, the 2hander needs an upgrade (probably going to turn it into a sk/pal 1hander), the shield is fine, and the necklace is nice. The bracer is fine.

You also have Garathor next door who always drops a 65 spell as well as a couple nice toys of his own.

I think this is a classic case of the Beastlord disease. (Everyone says it sucks so thus it sucks regardless of reality)

When you expect a one-groupable mob in a no-limit zone to drop the same gear as the stuff you raid, then you're applying the same logic as every Everquest expansion. More gain for less work.

Bleh.

FG is a micromanagement dungeon. You need a monk, or a fast chanter. I thought the xp was pretty good once we got into pulling, but call me crazy.

Or a bard :p

I like the zone. That being said, I think it could use a minor tweak in the random drops, perhaps a minor tweak as wiz said on Named drops.

I like the zone. The DS is not a problem, the mobs die fast and you don't even need a monk or a chanter for 80% of the place.

Quite true, he was well worth the kill and was much easier than Melwin. I think our particular experience was just spoiled by the fact that an item no one wanted dropped off of a mob that we wiped on twice prior. Was also very anticlimatic as we were expecting to find a super cool mob at the end and found only empty space.

Aah! I'm diseased, stay away. :)

Aldaris was created on Dec 19th, 2004. I'm now 8% into 53 with two AA's. We don't suck, really.

You don't have to tell me this. I'm just trying to say, when a few vocal people on WR decide something sucks, the opinion tends to spread like the plague, regardless of wheter it's true or not.

Oh, I know. Access to character databases, and whatnot.

But, that's exactly why I commented--not for you, but for everyone else. Having a player back up what you say from personal experience is more convincing, no?

Not like it should need to be in the first place, but that's a different problem entirely..

Indeed.

(p.s. Wiz, I must say I do thoroughly enjoy your commentary. Whenever you display your wit in /ooc, I often find myself laughing very hard. Thanks. :) )
