Okay, I'm done with this issue. I had tried to get a discussion going with the devs and other players about the knight weapon change, in the hopes of all parties involved gaining a better understanding of the situation. The players were not given any warning of this massive shift in itemization, and the devs refused to justify their reasons for doing it. In a few days/weeks this patch will likely be reverted or toned way back; my intention in trying to discuss things with the devs and other players was to lessen the time it will take for people to understand the mistakes made in this nerf.
When a dev creates a thread in Chillville explicitly stating that players should QQ there, rather than encouraging people to actually have a meaningful debate and constructive interaction, something is seriously wrong. When the majority of the thread evolves into a number of players posting suggestions and feedback, with two devs posting responses, numbers, etc to try and help us understand this change, an admin closes the thread. Allielyn, using the ~5 shit posts in a 4+ page thread to justify that action is laughable. Claiming that the thread was a flamewar, and that you were hoping for communication between devs and players that wasn't happening, is just flat-out wrong. Read the thread again. Every post, not just the handful of trolls. Observe the interaction that was going on between the players and the two devs who were posting. Granted, some of the players were being negative or angry in their posts. Springing this change on the playerbase in the manner you guys did will cause that; you can't blame people for being upset over this change, and acting as such.
Re-creating the thread, again with a similar OP (and actually adding that people who do anything other than QQ will be "tarred and feathered") is 100% contradictory to your statements in the final post of the first thread, Allielyn. Seriously, to an outsider looking in, it would look like you're 2 people posting on 1 account, neither of whom are actually reading the threads you are supposedly disappointed in.
You then give the S+R thread I created your blessing, while stating that yourself or the devs will not be contributing any hard numbers or formulas to back up your decisions. I can't really see how this makes any sense. You are the people who have the ability to run tests with every variable 100% controlled, not the players. I can understand that not every minor tweak in the game needs to be completely explained and supported with math by the staff. This drastic itemization rebalance does though, especially with the complete lack of an explanation or warning. Yet even with that policy, players were starting to post their own parses within minutes of the S+R thread being created. You then lock the thread (and delete a dev's chillville-quality reply to Stope.) Rather than completely disallowing any discussion to continue amongst any of the players and the staff, why don't you simply delete the post(s) made by players that so offend you, or issue them a warning?
All that being said, this thread will also likely be deleted/trash canned if the actions of the past 24 hours are continued. Fine. I hope you at least read this and try to empathize a bit from the player's perspective before you kill this thread though.
TL;DR- This whole change was handled in pretty much the worst way possible, and you guys received QQ/flames/troll responses from players as a direct result. Rather than doing anything to help the situation, you systematically did everything possible to make it worse. I honestly expected much better from the staff based on your track record and the great things you all have done for this server in the past.
