DCing is it here to stay!?

Hey, was thinking of DCing and wondering if it will ever go away or is it here to stay until this server shuts down. Wiz said in a earliar post that
Honestly, DCing really, really, sucks. It throws off balance, makes a joke of the concept of classes' soloability, discourages grouping, etc etc.

he also said that it's here to stay until we have twice the population and he rebalances soloing. Since that was more then a year ago the population has more then doubled since then, and with the new med changes soloing is faster but melees still have trouble soloing.

Now if DCing was banned I wouldn't mind the LFG window to work maybe faster sit down HP regen like on Live, or maybe some styles that can only be used while soloing to reduce damage or give some haste etc. I was also curious to see how many people would quit the game if DCing was banned and if so why would you!? Is it because you hate grouping with other people, you need to DC for raids, you like to PL alts even with the exp penalty, or is there another reason(s).

I would like to get peoples thoughts on this subject, and also I would like to see what needs to be changed before DCing would ever be banned. I'm not all pumped to see DCing banned so don't think this is just a thread to see it banned, I was just wondering if it's here to stay or not and to get peoples thoughts on the subject.
 
I dont think banning DCing would be a good idea. A lot of people have invested their time/effort/money in more than one character, and enjoy playing two of those at a time (especially if they complement each other).
 
I would not like to see DCing banned but i would like to see it discouraged for the reasons wiz listed.

I play a rogue and i dont DC(for the most part). I depend on groups to do just about anything in this game and the more people DC the less likely there will be a want/need or even a position avialable for me in thier group.

If the server ever hits a very high population (I'm talking like 1000-1500 at peak times), I wouldn't mind seeing it disappear.
 
i think i would get borred if not dcing. playing at Euro times . it's hard to get a slower a cleric or dps to group with ( i can bot those type of class ).
And i would certainly stop exping , just raiding ,or quit the game....

Banning Dcing is no sense for me....
 
I would like to see the server come to a point where people don't NEED to 2 box in order to fill up groups with classes they need. Where did that link from the main page go that told people to vote for SOD? :D
 
I personaly was never a big fan of DCing on live (never did it myself) however I do see merit in it when you play at odd hours or in odd zones. Even on live if you liked playing in certain zones you could count on doing it solo. As no group would ever run across 7-12 zones to group up with you in some out of the way place. DCing allowed you to do that and hunt at your pace how you wanted to, even with not so solo characters.

Like wiz said.. a nessary evil.

I think it would cause a major up roar on SoD if it was banned. And right now even with 400 peeple at peek, thiers still not enof people to try and remove DCing.

Specialy when out of those 400 i would say 300 are 60+
 
I think banning DC'ing would have a serious negative impact on the end-game raiding. Seeing how many raids are often compiled out of ppl that DC a set of chars that are needed for a raid. Ofcourse there is always a handfull of ppl that dont DC at raids, but if those that do were not allowed to anymore there wouldnt be a raid anymore :(

I didn't start out playing SoD as a "2 boxer" but with only 100 people online max back when I started playing,
it became for me, necessary. The ever-present combo was born of this neccessity.

Monk/shaman or warrior/cleric etc/etc

I've gotten to the point that playing a single toon is almost "boring".
It's more of a challenge to play 2 toons at once, or more to the point, to play both equally well, especially
if you can do it to the extent that it never hinders the group.
People that aren't "good" at DC'ing can become a huge liability in a group, i.e, the cleric doesn't get a CH in time
because his other toon was feared, etc.

But yes, I see the points of "if this was live" then we shouldn't be doing it, for various reasons, but this isn't live
and SoD will never have 2000 people on the server. SoD is great, I like it just the way it is, but it simply cannot
compete with live.

Wiz can't afford to pay an army of programmers and designers to constantly churn out fresh content to keep people
interested. Sure there's some new people playing that have never even played live, but it's pretty much just the old
school live players that stick around, in SoD, perhaps because SoD is the closest we'll ever come to re-living our glory
days, "the good old days" on live when we were level 20 wearing a full set of banded and our Centi SS was "sweet".

Not a huge fan of dcing myself. Most of the time. Sometimes it has huge beneficial uses however, like when theres no porter for a tmap group and you happen to have a druid bot. Also incredibly useful when no healer is present and someone just happens to have a cleric bot etc etc. If the server was like 2k ppl on at a time it'd be fantastic for grouping etc etc, but I doubt thats happening any time soon.
 
i recall hearing a statement about a year ago on this same exact topic which said something to the extent of: " dc'ing was essential when the server started in order to get balanced groups, now that the population is larger and it's not necessarry it plays too integral a role in the server to take away".
 
*shrugs* Some of us just like playing two characters. My husband and I both dual box because we enjoy it.
 
if you guys want the server population to grow its really easy it took me like 5 hours of digging to find this site and when i did i was glade i did, if they would advertise one some very popular game sites the population would grow immensly lineage 2 p servers/emus are very large cause they get on alot of sites, i dont know if the goal here is to keep stuff more "private" but i could probley post about this game on a few places i go and get 100+ new people but i dont know if thats what people want or what not (i dident read all the threads in this but just giving my 411)
 
I DEMAND soloability for bard at 65!!!.... ok so I know it's not gonna happen.. I'll suck it up and.. ummmm run in circles
 
well i got LD because of the server SOD tried to log into my pc and i rebooted it and it happened 4 times.

I would actually like having raids where everyone single boxed, but as Wiz stated.. I would agree DCing is a neccesary evil, the playerbase isn't large enough, yet.

He's thinking DCing as in "disconnecting." That's what I thought the thread was about, too, when I saw the subject line. Before I came here, I'd never heard the term DCing - we always called it "2-boxing."

Speaking of which... I've started to try 2-boxing. It's hard. Probably need more macros, but I think I'm going to stick with one-boxing for now.
