DC'd while zoning

I hope this isn't a repost. I checked a few pages back in hopes of finding something, but nothing popped out at me.

Anyway, every time I zone I'm basically booted back to the server select screen. Someone suggested that I repatch everything, so I've done that (a few times, actually) and it didn't do anything for my problem. I've disabled all programs that could interfere with network activity. I'm running a core duo machine with both of those fixes posted above.

On top of the zoning problem, sometimes it takes me like four or five times to get beyond the character select screen. I pick a character, tell it to load, and it kicks me back to the server select screen.

If anyone has any suggestions, they're much appreciated!
 
It can be caused by people hammering the login server, or a severe lag spike during zoning.
 
That's understandable, but it happens literally every time I zone. Is this a common problem?

/edit: I might note that I've played this at all hours of the day, and I experience the same thing.
 
do you two-box? if you use 2 chars on the same account you have to zone them one after the other or it'l crash, otherwise I have no idea whats up.
 
This happens way more often than it used to for me also. I have no characters on the same account or anything. It happens sometimes when I solo, sometimes when I duo.

The lag spikes are terrible these days. I imagine the DC on zoning is due to the increase in lag spikes. As I've had entire groups mention the spikes quite often, I know it's not my isolated problem.

I don't know if development is done on the same box as the play server, but if so, that might explain it although it seems way too consistent for that to be the case.
 
i DC while zoneing about 75% of the time i zone while my brother on the same network doesnt ever disconnect while zoneing we dont have any ports forwarded or blocked neither of us have any lag problems im running a way better system duel core sli video card i have the game set to single use only one of the cpu's
 
One of the problems is zone alarm and some other firewalls. I have been trying to figure out the reason why but suffice to say you can not run most firewalls at the same time as eq without this problem. Its also the reason for multiple attempts at the server/character select screen and dc while zoning. It seems to be that zone alarm when checking the packets is for some reason not able to keep up during those times or it is causing eq to think it is losing packets. I could probably find out with a bit of work, I just do not have the care to waste my time figuring out why when i can just disable zone alarm.

I know its a firewall for certain as I did testing on it.
