Alright, so i've been playing for awhile now, and one of the things i've never figured out was damage reduction, and how important it is and/or any conversions people have for it (for sacrificing say, some hp for dmg redux.) I've never really thought it to be THAT important, just a slight benefit as it maxes at 25 points iirc, and when a mob is quading you for 1k+ saving the 100hp from the 4 hits doesnt' seem all that helpful, a little bit sure, but nothing huge. When grouping and soloing small stuff, I love dmg redux to death though. So am I missing something, or do I have this about right?

One round can be pretty quick. To get a good idea of how beneficial it is, look at how many times you usually get hit between heals. In your example, if it's 5 rounds between heals, that's kept you 500hp farther from death. It adds up quick.

I've never seen anyone use any rough conversion factors for it, however (like the 1ac = 5hp conversion). I certainly take DR into significant consideration when I'm evaluating upgrades.
 
Depends on what you're comparing it to. I fomelo'd Magina, and it's certainly better than the Fine Silk Robe, but not wearable by a lvl 7 mage. =P

65AC and 10 DR are quite nice, and could very well make up for the lack of HP depending on what AC/HP your other options are.
 
For any given mob its worth approximately the number of melee hits you could expect to take without heals before dieing in HP. It varies a lot by mob so you’d need to keep logs and review them if you want an exact value.

If you expect to take absorb 10 melee hits in a fight with one HP bar than the 10 DR on that BP is worth 100+ HP. Note that you need to look at all sources of damage in a fight, for instance if you expect to take one melee hit and loose the rest of you life to an AoE (aux tanking), then it's only worth 10 HP.

Oh yeah one more thing. DR is going to save healer mana when compared to the same amount of HP that it saves. It's probably not going to be a huge factor if you are fighting something that hits really hard, but for xp groups where you take a large number of weak hits it can save a bunch.

DR is pretty impressive stat that I find many over look for other stats.

Vs Big Raid mobs, your DR isn't all that impressive. Its realy more of a xp group/solo stat. When you can go 10-20 hits or more before needing a heal that 20 DR is pretty big bonus.

But like in your example when your getting nailed with 1600 dmg hits, 20 pts of DR really doesn't matter much since heals are landing pretty quickly.

At that point Hps are going to matter more then the DR.
 
yeah DR is huge if you solo or group a lot and can make a huge difference, on raids because of over healing its effect is marginal at best though.
 
yea, I was just mostly wondering, seeing as im' 2 gems away from combine bp, and was considering the DR, just wanted to konw about it in general. ty guys.
