I seem to lose my connection every morning around 6 or 7am EDT. I can't login to the game and I can't access the website either for about 5 minutes.

omg, you dont have access to the website for 5 mins, you're life is ruined ;(
maybe check if its not your isp who reconnects you after 24 hours of connection, mine does that...

He asked a simple question. No need for snide comments. I thought it was a fair question to ask if it happens. He never said he had no access to any website. If it was his ISP, he shouldn't be able to access anything.

There has been alot more patching on the server lately. Perhaps you've had bad luck with your logging in time.

Best way to know is if that happens again, check up on the mIRC topic to see what's going on. :)

Good luck

No shit! :finger: I was asking a simple question. I wasn't complaining. I was stating what happens and asking if there is a known reason. And yes, the rest of the interweb works fine. :D I'll chalk it up to bad luck.

I figured it out after going LD 3 times last night. My firewall was detecting UDP port scans. When it detects what is perceived as a port scan, it blocks all traffic from the IP for a set interval. I had a similar problem with EQ Live. Does anyone know which ports need to be allowed? Right now I have it set to allow all traffic from WR on the UDP ports, but I don't know which specific UDP ports that it uses. Anyway, it works now!

according to Sony, Everquest uses random UDP ports, and there is no specific range given. Not sure on EQEmu, but I would presume it is the same.

We do backups of the server around 7am Central daily. This may cause some LDs, but I haven't really noticed a significant drop in population during this time (reference population graph on website).

As for the UDP ports, I can confirm that the client uses a random source UDP port. The destination UDP port is, however, static by necessity. As for firewalls detecting "UDP Scans", perhaps it is picking up on the fact that our zone UDP ports are consecutive (i.e. 7000, 7001, 7002, 7003, etc.)
