---------- Original Post -----------------
Hey fellow WR players!

I know one or more of the above things has been active and working on the live servers, and I would like to encourage you all to use the channels here on Wintersroar in order to keep the serverwide ooc usable and sort of free-of-spam.

Class channels can be used to
- get to know your fellow necros (in my case), clerics, pallies, whatever
- exchange tactical information
- ask for the services of some player of this class
- talk about class-specific quests

As class channels, I would like to suggest:
paladin - cleric - (en)chanter - shadowknight - shaman - druid - wizard - mage - beastlord - bard - rogue - monk - warrior - ranger - necro

If anyone knows a decent short form of shadowknight, please post below - in the end it's up to the members of a certain class to decide which spelling they choose.

I would like to ask everyone to use those channels without a password or - if time proves that some people password the channel every now and then to annoy others, use the same pw as the channel name.

Furthermore, for people looking for a port as well as porters who are offering them, I would like to suggest the chat channel "taxi".
This will keep auction and ooc clear of that extra traffic.

Then - in order to keep that out of the main chat channels also, how about using the channel "lfg" when you want a group or a group is looking for more? Just join the channel and you will be able to see if enough people of your level are on that channel to form a group of your own. Groups looking for players would check the channel first.

To exchange quest information the ooc channel is probably still well suited, since so much information and drops need to be linked together, but for the future MAYBE it would work establishing a channel named "quests"

Long story short, to summarize, I suggest heavily using the channels
(classnames), taxi, lfg, quests

Please get used to those if you like the idea :)

Unless you don't want the extra chat, I would kindly ask you to autojoin at least your class channel, and maybe the ones that interest you - for example, for myself, the autojoin would look like this:
/autojoin necro, quests

Regards,

Maliciosa

PS: I am not on an ego trip to impose my ideas of channel names upon the rest of you, the (mostly) absolute suggestion of exact names is to establish a "standard" - if we start a big discussion about channel names, we'll have people confused and split over several channels with the same purpose

PPS: I don't want to debate the likeliness of those channels being successful - time will tell which of the above stay populated and which will die out :)

Fantastic idea and one I'd always wanted, a similar system implemented on my Live server, only difference is here there's a chance people might listen :)

Had a server Beastlord and serverwider Beastlord channel when was on Live and for the most part was pretty handy.

Won't need the serverwide here as there is but one server though the idea is still very usefull.

/join beastlord
/autojoin beastlord

Very good idea. I'll give these a try. /ooc lately has been like being perma-stuck in LOIO on a live server 4 years ago :(

Another short form os Shadowknight is SK. I remember the serverwide shadowknight channel on Live was serverwide.sk:sk, in fact.

I'll be using these channels, but maybe an idea. These channels in game are based off the EQEmu project's IRC server. So you can log onto these channels from your IRC client. And maybe a suggestion, perhaps preface the channel name with wr_ to signify its wr's channel.

I.e. wr_taxi for winter's roar Taxi dispatch center :p.

Also, from you IRC Client, you can use
Code:
/join #wr_taxi
[/code]

If this is actually going to work, why don't you edit the very first post to include a list of 'offical' decided upon channels and the codes used for joining them. This will prevent confusion and duplicate channels for the same purpose.

I will gladly do that - as soon as someone starts using one of those channels, I will edit it accordingly.

Maliciosa

Registered channel #summoner

Home of Winter Roar's Magician's. Ask for Summoned items here, and other Summoner type chat.

Type /join summoner in game

or come visit while in IRC by typing /join #summoner

Thanks.

Hmm - I don't wanna question your judgement... but... - what exactly was wrong with "mage" or "magician" for a channel name? :)

But if the other mages are fine with this, I'll edit it up there.

Regards,

Maliciosa

More a play on names, sorta, I like summoner because Mages are Summoners. We summon pets, we summon stuff.

The purpose of the channel is for summoning discussion.

Sorta why taxi isn't called, porting, or transporting. It's all a matter of names, really.

how do you un-autojoin channels....

im still in serverwide.cleric and a raid channel on drinal...even though neither are used anymore...well i wouldnt be able to get into them anyways....

but how do i get them off my autojoin...just kinda annoying

As soon as you make a new autojoin list, the old one is overwritten(I think).
