this problem

This problem has almost disappeared for me reacently.

Has wiz done something?

Is anyone else still having trouble with this? Its nice to be able to log in with out 50 fails

Thanks Wiz if you have done something.

This happened to me when I would torrent (or my connection was otherwise gimped). It seemed to go away with the advent of the second sever (that is, even when torrenting I could get in). So I always assumed it was a connection timeout issue (and mainly on my end) and never thought that this post related to me.

Getting the same problem here.
After loading the game through the patcher and getting to the server select screen, the game crashes after I hit the play button.
Tried it about 20 times in the past hour and nothing has worked so far.
Any ideas?

can we get a fix for this please or an official response? alot of people have this problem yet i see nothign about resolving it.

I'm also having this issue. It started happening at the end of February. It takes between 20-100 tries in order to successfully get to the character select screen. My average ping to the login server is 93ms. Also, something I haven't seen mentioned, it take 5-10 tries to get to the server select screen. When I type in my password it says I'm waiting in the login queue, but it'll just sit there until I press escape and try again.

This is happening on all 5 of my PCs, leading me to believe its a connection issue; however, since so many other people are having the same problem, it must be a server side connection problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Bump. Any news on this issue Wiz? I know you have alot on your plate but could you comment if there has been any news, good or bad?

Thanks, Jinxat.

Any progress? Today I tried logging in about 50-60 times and I kept getting the same problem. Is there any progress at all, even good or bad? I would just like to know if I am shit outta luck for the time being or if I should expect a change soon since I am sure it is very frustrating for me and all of the other people having this problem. Any news at all would be good news. Thanks.

Any admin reply on this would be appreciated greatly. I haven't been able to log in at all since around Christmas. Even if the reply is you are too busy to look at it, at least then I will know to go ahead and uninstall the game.

/waiting patiently for Dawntide

I was having this problem too, however I stopped all transfers on Azureus (didn't even have to close the program) and now it works fine. Hope this helps some people.

I have tried closing bittorrent, I opened the ports, I can ping the server, I ran a tracerout that came back ok(the results of both the ping and trcrt are somewhere earlier in this thread...page 3 I think), iirc Wiz or Zodium or somebody had tried upping the timeout on the server to see if that helped with no luck (I remember that being discussed for a while and I'm pretty sure it was tried, but I could be mistaken). I have gotten a new computer since all of this started and can't connect on that one either. I can't connect to my account from friends' houses that play SoD. They can connect to their accounts with no trouble. I live right by a state line and the friends houses in question are in the next state, so it's not my ISP messing it up or anything like that. I have two accounts and cannot connect to either. I miss my cleric horribly. =( It figures that I would get invited to a guild, and then never be able to connect again starting about the very next day. There's irony!!! :lol: :brow: :lol:

I think that I was able to narrow down the problem to the eqclient.ini file in the main folder of the game. My brother wrote a simple program that compares two files, and only two lines differed on a crashing ini and a non-crashing ini. The only difference was that there were two extra lines above the VideoMode category.

My crashing ini looked like this:

SendSystemInfo=1
LastSysInfoDate=1142983050

[VideoMode]

After finding this out, I just deleted the two lines and it has already worked two out of two times for me, but it might just be a coincidence. Someone please confirm if this really is a fix.

This is probably the most exciting piece of news I've had this month. I will certainly give it a try after work and let you know the results.

Edit- I only had the line sendsysteminfo. Didn't have lastsysinfodate. Also, the value in my sendsysteminfo line was 0, not 1. Don't know if it will work or not, but I will let you know. It's so tempting to try it now, but not too long ago the entire school district's internet service slowed to a crawl. It was definitley not down, but it was to the point of being unusable. The next day I asked somebody from the district building what was going on with the server, and he told me somebody in the district was playing WoW and flooded the proxy. Whoops. I was just glad it wasn't me.

Ok, I just hope I'm not giving you some sign of false hope. I was planning to test it but SoD is so addicting that I haven't stopped yet.. gonna try to add that line to see if it forces a crash. I'll try to force a crash before I go to bed.

*update*
Sorry to dissapoint you but it seems like both instances were just coincidences. I've tried multiple times to force EQ to crash by editing the eqclient.ini file but it continues to run normally. Oh well, I'll look more into it.

I will try this also and let you know. But I have the same thing as duktak. The value shows up for me as 0 instead of 1 but I deleted the two lines nonetheless. Hope it works, thanks for your effort.

Jinxat.
