Hi

Can I suggest that the timing and drop rate be upped for Greater Wisps in Heartlands. I've finished 4 parts of the Main Quest in the same time as I've spent running in circles tried to find wisps for this one little part. I play a cleric so I can't track, they pop so infrequently that I can't really ask anyone to stay long to help me. I spent 2 hours last night there and managed to kill 3 wisps. Just aimlessly running around in circles. Then 4 hours now this morning, where I killed 9. Net result has been 3 Lightstones. For me its boring and tedious, and close to the point of me giving up.

For me at least, its marring whats otherwise been a really well made and fun quest so far.

Just a suggestion
Thanks for listening

The wisps have placeholders. Kill everything in a particular area and you're more likely to get more wisps to spawn.

As for the tracking thing, wisps are summoned (hint hint Mr. cleric).

Killed 20 now

Hi there,

How to say this nicely. IMO I still think it's just too rare a drop.

I returned & then a good guildie helped me for a while. Being able to Sense them helped. Cleared the zone for another couple of hours. I'm keeping a Tally chart on these. Have now killed 20 in total. Must have taken 7-8 hours total with nothing but a handful of Lightstones to show for it.

Maybe I'm just unlucky, but its taken a whole day in 2 parts just running around HL killing green mobs! Probably I've just been really unlucky, but I can't bear to do it another min.

Best regards

I've always thought that people who complained about the goblin scout beads part of the quest needed to just suck it up and get it done, but I'm going to agree with SyncMizer on the wisps. Heartlands as a zone sucks, period; for some people (me at least) the suckiness of the zone is compounded by framerate issues with the zone. Having to spend hours hunting elusive wisps for even a single rare drop, in a sucky zone, with framerate issues, is not fun. It's not just a bottleneck (if that is the purpose), it's a source of aggravation.

You really only killed 20 wisps in eight hours? That seems awfully slow to me.

It's gonna take you a while to complete this, at that rate. If these drops are discouraging you that bad though you might want to consider if you have the patience to be working on these quests at all, this isn't the rarest or most annoying thing you'll be searching for.

I don't have much experience with the CoI quests, but what experience I do have points to wisps being ridiculous. Also, heartlands is not a fun zone, which makes the wisp quest worse.

Questing

Its not a moan, just a suggestion.

"If these drops are discouraging you that bad though you might want to consider if you have the patience to be working on these quests at all"

Firstly. Eight hours killing green mobs in HL is like watching paint dry. It would test the patience of a saint. I never even saw an Essence when I grouped there with chars I leveled up, first or second time.
Secondly. A bard whose name I forget was camping the zone yesterday, he said he killed 30 of them and been there 8 hours. So I know I'm not alone. I've been asking around. Pally in my guild said he got the drop on first kill. So I can see my experience is not a rule either.
Thirdly. I already collected the Goblin Beads, took about an hour. I did the rest of the MQ parts, without 'moaning'! This bit is all that remains of this part.

All I can say is I'm killing them as they pop and killing the surrounding mobs to hasten repops as much as I can. Your probably right, if spending a whole day camping one drop is the name of the game, this is my patience limit point!

It's why I filed it under suggestions. Not moans! Its a fun quest, been enjoying thus far.

I gotta say, sync isn't wrong here. I spent 3 days on this myself on my wizard. Admittedly the first night I spent there I didn't know to kill the placeholders, and wasted 6 hours.

The second day I killed for hours and hours and got lots of wisps, and no greater wispstone.

Third day, again hours and hours, and finally one of the many wisps dropped a greater for me.

I know it's just a random number generator. Even with a 20% chance of the drop (which it probably isn't), some people will see it after 1 kill and some will see it after 200 kills.

Raising the drop rate could make it too easy, which would be bad but it still sucks for some.

Thats what you get for choosing CoI. Get of the fence and choose a side.

True gangstas choose Blackscale and all we have to do is steal supplies and horses and ride.

Aye, like those pesky tarot cards in CC.

I disagree; at 64, zaranth dwarves are dark blue and very much a viable source of exp; quick and easy exp, even. The cards basically fall into your lap if you group there a few hours...if you aren't TRYING to get the cards, it doesnt seem bad at all.

This is NOT the case with wisps; killing wandering mobs in HL is not a good source of exp, and might possibly be riskier than zaranth dwarves because of the greater risk of adds.

*shrug*

I know I got those wisps a lot easyer then getting all 4 of my tarot cards (on 3 differnt toons that did MQ + CoI).

Honestly found the beads took longer, but as thier static spawn can't really complain much about those.

Being as there's no real neutral faction, there is no on the fence. Also, CoI would be the good faction. Lawful, True, and chaotic neutral always have gotten kind of screwed. But I digress, that quest from what I remember was annoying as hell, and made me want to not do it. I've done far worse quests from a timesink annoyance perspective, and would definitely say the zone contributes, add that to the random spawns. The only annoyance I can think of offhand comparable to it is getting snow griffon stuff for silver crown.

Oh, I wouldn't disagree about tarot cards taking longer to get than the wisp drop...what I'm saying is, one gets the added benefit of cash + exp while hunting for the cards, in a zone that isn't so bad. With the wisps, you're dealing with poor exp, no cash (except animal hides I guess), and the risk of numerous adds in a zone that also gives framerate issues for some people. In talking about pure length of time, tarot cards could be more frustrating; when you factor in the other negatives going on with the wisp quest, I'd say wisps are more annoying hands down

i feel your pain

im currantly doing the wisp hunt on my mage and ive killed 35 so far and nothing but lightstones. ive been leveling the zone allover and killing anythig in site cept the faction peeps to try and speed spawns up but still this is rediculous. last 3 peeps i did this on got it within first 10 kills.
all in all RNG hates me supa bad right now i guess.

heh

that is also true but at least you get exp or money from them usually.
note i finally got my mages essence on 46th kill and it was ironically the first one killed after i relogged her after taking 2 hour break.

just thinking about doing all the later coi quests on my warrior, pally, and mage eventually makes me shiver.
