could someone explain how to augment items?

I recently completed the first part of the new main quest, and was trying to figure out how to use the reward. Apparently it needs to be augmented into another item that has an augment 3 slot available to it. However, several things are unclear to me still

Do I need to start a skill such as tailoring, jewelcraft, or blacksmithing in order to create an item that has aug 3 slot? or do they drop off of mobs?

If they drop off of mobs, what lvl mobs do aug 3 gear typically drop from or is it completely random? I have soft leather and cloth items and none are aug3, all are aug1 at best....

If the items can be created from a skill as above, what skill lvl do I need to create that lvl of item, and are there recipies for them I can read up on?

How do I acutally augment something, do I just put the jewel into the augment box with the item I want to augment and hit the combine button? or are therecipes more complex than that?

sorry to be dense but I have not found much info on how to go about this, and its not obvious to me how this is done...

You put the augment and the item to be augmented in the box and hit combine its that simple. Your augment type must match the type of the augment slot on the item. Players can craft augments for jewelry, cloth/leather, and chain/plate using their respective trade skills. I added a bunch of low level plate and chain augments to my vendor in Oggok if you want to see some the player crafted ones.

Type 3 Aug slots are found on jewlery. See this link for the thread where Wiz lists what Aug slots are what.
