Somewhere around midnight last night, Allielyn the bard contacted me with some disturbing news. Newport had been attacked and the portal wizard slain. An attack on Athica also occured, but the onslaught was held back by some brave defenders. Word of a portal beginning to open in the Mansion quickly spread and I went to investigate. Upon entering the Mansion, I spotted two coroporals of Kaezuls army, clearly we were dealing with a powerful enemy, but when the portal fully opened 20 brave souls entered.
We were taken to a dreadful place unknown to the entire party, with massive forrests, harsh terrain, and what appeared to be the same spires that dot the continents of Dalaya. Scared to move, we huddled close and banded together, waiting for something to spur us to action. A spectre charged us, but was no match for our combined power. Off to the distance we began to see terrible creatures that resembled wolves, but carried an aura of sheer terror. This was the stimuli we were waiting for, and the entire party took off running towards the snowy terrain ahead. The wolves descended on a druid, tearing him to pieces, and we knew they were coming for us.
We shortly stumbled upon a small town like area, perhaps some sort of ancient ritual site, and we all took refuge inside the walls of the pyramid buildings. Cautiously we waiting. I could hear the pack of wolves outside the door, each breath they took was like a sonic boom in my ears. Suddenly a portal opened nearby and we all made a mad dash for it.
Perhaps running through that portal was a mistake.
We were thrown on a stone platform, facing a wide desert, the hot wind blowing up clouds of dry desert sand, making it hard to see. All of a sudden the dust settled and before us stood a legion of horrible monsters, stacked 20 deep. I looked on in shock at the Ninth Division of Kaezul's powerful army. We tried to be still and not draw their attention, although I assume that they knew of our presence since we arrived. At the head of the horde stood Baldakos, a simple dark elf like myself, but his mere presence inspired more fear in me than the army he led. He confirmed my suspicions that our presence was known and instructed his legion to attack us.
At that moment, myself and Grake the cleric fled as fast as we could. I remember brief visions of a large castle structure, but I cannot remember them well, the sheer terror of the moment clouds my memory. I entered a wooded area and encountered another pack of wolves. A pack of wolves I could not defeat. They attacked me, but I made use of my skill to imitate the dead and they simply ignored me as if I were a rock on the ground.
Baldakos, however, saw through my ruse and unleased a terrible power on me, striking me dead in an instant. So far in my journeys, he is the only being in Dalaya that can tell the difference between my imitation of the dead and the truely dead. Clearly he has spent much time studying us and is far more powerful than anything on our plane of existance.
Hopefully someday the portal to that place will open again and we can lead an organized expedition through it, with enough force to stand a chance against his might. This day I do not see happening in the near future however, much preperation still must be done.
