Blade: Rec Level: 36 (10/19 = .526, +7 str, 5 AC, +10 svp, droppable, sells pretty cheap)
Crystal Link Whip: Rec Level: 42 (12/22 = .545, +8 str, +10 dex, +10 agi, some proc, droppable, not as cheap - I got one for like 300 or 350 I think)
Radiant Crystalline Axe: Rec Level: 50 (13/23 = .565, +5 str, +5 dex, +30 hp, no-drop, quested)
The axe barely beats out Blade and the whip in dam/del ratio, and stats-wise is no better than either (much worse than the whip). Since it has a higher recommended level, I'm guessing it was meant to be a good weapon at level 50, but farming has made it a mediocre weapon by comparison.
Personally, I think if you took a piece of droppable gear and a piece of quested gear at the same recommended level, the quested gear should be better. Granted, the quest was pretty light in complexity, but not exactly easy. I don't know how easily a whole group of level 50s (hypothetically of course, since you'd be hard-pressed to form a full group of people around level 50) could take on a cave kodiak, but I know it would be rough - the amount of damage one of those can do is insane.
