Companies Shouldn't Mess With Tech People

So I had a Nextel phone ... personal one. It was expensive every month. My company decided since they have Nextel to provide me with a phone so I didn't have to pay out of my own pocket since 80% of my phone use was work related.

I cancelled my Nextel phone ... I got charged an extra $200 ... apparently my 1 year contract from 2001 was in fact a 4+ year contract somehow. Nextel states that when you buy a new phone from them it "refreshes" the contract for 24 months. Odd I don't remember anyone telling me that.

So after 2 hours of phone calls bouncing around they still say ... tough luck gotta pay the $200.

Hmmm ... interesting ... well surprise Nextel, I'm the Technical Project Manager for the school district I'm in. And I just made the recommendation to switch from Nextel to Verizon for the entire district. We worked on some plan details and now the district is on board for the switch over.

Their $200 profit from me just turned into thousands of dollars in lost profit because they messed with the wrong guy. When will they learn. :)

Had Bell Mobility and Rogers both try to dick me around in similar type situations..

I haven't recommended either and have infact switched over more Bell Voice, Mobile and Internet users as well as Rogers Internet Voice, and Mobile users to Local ISP dsl providers with dry loop DSL with Voip and Telus for mobile use then I care to count. Telus while maybe not the greatest for cellular is pretty damn good and has yet to PISS me off in the 5 years of trouble free service where when I have had an issue it was "no problem Mr. Shaw, pop in to the store and pickup a replacement." and that was a phone replaced out of warranty without resigning a contract :)

On a side note I no longer pay for my DSL and or Home phone at this point as I was given a "staff discount" from my local ISP even though I don't "work for them" lol..

Cost of monthly services :xxx dolars.
Cost of pissing me off :pRICELESS

Man, Sprint PCI has me over that same barrel. I'm on the hook until Dec. 2007. They are without a doubt the absolute worst company I have ever dealt with.

You say it only cost you $200 to get out of your contract? If Sprint has anything like that, it may well be worth it to me.

Oh, and way to stick it to the man. :)

1.) Take them to court and contest the bill.
2.) Sue for court costs.
3.) When you win, laugh at them.

If you didn't sign a contract, then they are S.O.L.

They'll end up losing the $200 and also probably pay out the ass with lawyers and court costs. Additionally, if you cannot sue for court costs, its worth it to just spend the $200 on court and Nextel will end up losing out by paying their lawyers $200/hr to do jack squat.

Clauses in contracts that change the duration of the contract are NOT legally binding. A contract has a set duration, and any attempt to alter that duration, even through literature in the contract, is a bold faced attempt to commit fraud. END OF STORY.

I HATE CORPORATIONS!

They do. It's $150 when I cancelled. But they waved it for me because I cancelled when I moved out of their coverage area.
