Combat Styles

Ok, first let it be known: I am the uber noob.

I have had some trouble finding info in this myself so I inquire to you all.

Could someone please explain the intricacies of using the various combat styles, ie. the /style <text> command?

I suppose the style command has to do with aggro, though i am not really sure how aggro works. Could someone please offer an explanation to how aggro really works? (ie. i have been told that spells piss off mobs.)

When is it a good idea to switch styles?

What are the benefits/side effects to switching styles?

I play a Lvl 17 Ranger with great eq (for now) and I need all the help I can get. Please help, it would be much aprreciated. :D

Thx,

A list of styles can be pulled up ingame by using #style.

You can also find a list of styles, their level restrictions and their effects under the combat styles thread in the Development and Ideas forum.

Switching of styles is mainly a personal thing. Some people turn on one style and stay like that. Some people flick between them, going aggressive when they don't have aggro and jumping to defensive if their extra DPS pulls it onto them, then switching back when they lose it, etc. Other styles are situational, like Corpse Bane and Overwhelming.

What you'll probably need to get used to is switching between precise and defensive though. As a ranger, you'll probably use your bow a lot in the future, and getting hit in precise style will exhaust you for a minute. I find it helps to have a defensive hotkey to switch to just before the mob lands his hit, so I'm not handicapped for the next minute or so. Precise has a highish level requirement though, so it shouldn't be a concern for you at the moment. :p

I'm beginning to see it...

Tyvm Dujek. And thx to Fjodor for bumping the post in development/ideas.

*giggles* What situation actually calls for Corpse Bane? lol

*giggles* What situation actually calls for a PALADIN!? lol maybe you think it's useless because you never use it. A completely different thing than there being no use for it.
