Character Death

Perhaps aging and/or character death.

Could be done via constitution.

With each death you lose a natural constitution point.

Rez brings back your lost xp and the lost con point for a death.

When your natural con drops below say half the natural level you can no longer be rezzed because of your weakened con.

When your natural con drops below 10, your character dies perma death...drops all items on the ground and you must start over.

Quests in game can bring back con points etc..

This would bring an incredibly annoying and un-fun aspect into the game...why do this? :?

An aspect of the rpg that most seem to forget in the mm world is the feeling of life or death and the struggle against it.

I think this would bring an added challenge to a game where nobody ever dies, and no equipment ever breaks. Not very realistic in the fantasy sense. Immortality should be something attained not inherit.

but of course we all have different ideas of what we enjoy in a game.

Ok lets just say that everybody who wants to roleplay gets a feat like this enabled... and the rest of us, who just want to play and NOT lost their hard worked for chars dont get this enabled!

In otherwords: terrible idea!

Indeed

Indeed I can see its a great idea already because of immediate move against it. ;)

But to actually say any aspect of SoD ( other than the coding by the imps ) is hard is nonsensical. You can get a toon to 65 in a week if you know what you are doing.

This game is perhaps one of the easiest out there. And people still complain that there isnt a teleporter for free in ever zone.

Way more to do than getting 65 in a week. :)

And no, any 65 will tell you that they die all the time...Raids are the No. 1 killer of high levels. :D

I have to add, games where equipment breaks are the ones I find most annoying. Having equipment break is near pointless.

If you think this game is one of the easiest out there, you have NOT played WoW, EQ2, DAoC, SWG... THOSE are easier than games that were created back in the era of Atari.

It's a game.

I play games for fun, not realism.

I mean, implementing this to "add to the sense of reality and roleplaying" is just as bad of an idea as riding the coach and watching your character on horseback for 15 minutes while he zones.

As for the getting to 65 in a week, what is "doing it right"? Not sleeping or eating for 7 days?

I also don't think that's a good idea. Especially for soloers, who like to explore and sometimes can't pull just one mob (I'd be pissed off if I'd lose my equipment then).
I'd rather have libraries - you could read a book and become wiser :D (as in real life)
I actully like it just the way it is.

I know on live I probably died more between 60-65 per level than I did the whole time getting to 60 in the first place.

ie. if I died even once per level 1-60 = 60 deathes minimal.. for each level past that I woulda been close to 60 deathes per level 60x5 = 300 and probally isn't too inacurrate. Oh and that is based on "per-toon"

I actually like your idea and think it could work in a different game and/or server. But really it takes a certain kind of player to go for this.

Good idea though.

Personally I do like the idea. Perma death after so many rez's takes a very close path to the P&P version and fantasy realism.

But in actual mechanics for the casual and hardcore players, it won't fly. This would cause a dramatic drop in player base if it were implemented for all. And I realize that you were inferring to the roleplayers and not everyone. But even then, some roleplayers would like it and others would not.

Myself, I would definately use it. I've never been fond of the 'Damn, I'm dead. Cool, I'm alive again for no reason." approach. This is one thing that really just didn't appeal to me when there was just EQ (no expansions). It just took away from the semi-realistic fantasy feel the game was trying to portray. You die, you respawn. I like a finality approach to a character.

If it were to be ever implemented as an option, way cool. If not, no biggie...
