When in the character creation menu, the avatar on the screen is freaking out. It is twitching, bending, flipping upside down, comepletely erratic. In addition, the buttons to do anything, create character, next, back, choose face, all buttons are very poor responding. You click on them and it may do something, or you may have to click 15-20 times befoe it advances.

Very strange acting. My system is more than capeable of handing all graphics.

K8N Neo4/SLI mobo
Athlon 64X2 Dual Core proc
7800 GTX 256 meg vid card
2 gigs ram

So a system that should be able to handle this.

Any ideas what I can do to square this away?

Could be due to your dual-core processor.
Try this:
Start up SoD windowed, then bring up your Task Manager with ctrl-alt-delete.
Click over to processes and right click the eqgame.exe process. Select "affinity" and put it to only use one core of your processor.

See if that helps!

I am rather embaressed... I've been working tech support for 10 years... I tell people to reboot all day long...

Guess what I neglected to do?

yeah, reboot.

Sorry to waste your time..

Or not... It started up again...

I've patched windows for the dual core issues with games. not sure what else to try. I'll fire up my second box and see if it works fine

OK I am fairly certain this is a dual proc issue, however the system will not allow me to change the affinity of eqgame.exe. If I load live, I can change everquest.exe, but sill canno change the affinity to eqgame.exe. I can change most others, just not eqgame.exe. I am the administrator on my machine. There are no other accounts on this box other than mine. I checked.

Anyone have any ideas as to why I am unable to change affinity as admin?

thanks for any input..

OK, got it working on live and SoD. It is an issue related to dual proc or hyperthreading. EQ was not designed for dual proc or hyperthreading, so the game gets confused as to what to use. I had to download a small program called RunFirst.exe. I downloaded it and unzipped it to my C:\ drive.

Download RunFirst.exe: http://www.activeplus.com/us/freeware/runfirst/

Once done, I changed my shortcuts to the following:

SoD: C:\RunFirst.exe "C:\Mikes\Downloads\Shards download\Release\sodpatcher.exe"
Live: C:\RunFirst.exe "C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest\Everquest.exe"

This will set the game to run on the first processor. Run patcher per normal and game works fine.

Hope this helps someone else with a dual proc problem.
