These armors are both made with blacksmithing, and are within 10 points of each other trivial wise. Anyone else see a problem with chain armor being on par with platemail, and outright superior in some instances? I realize as a warrior I could just wear the chainmail. But the problem comes from comparative tanking ability. With AC softcaps the same for all classes, and rangers/rogs having the same defensive skills as plate wearers, chain classes tank the same as the plates, and do more dmg.

Actually, that looks about right. I believe the problem is the method by which you are comparing the two armor sets. Rather than comparing their "trivial level", consider more the "ore tier". Iron < Copper < Silver < Dalium < Mithril < Obsidian < Ghostmetal < Warpmetal < Deepmetal. (Yes, I'm aware that I've somewhat over-simplified the ore comparisons, but it doesn't detract from my point.)

If you were to compare Mithril Chainmail Cloak and Mithril Platemail Cloak, then your statements would become either no longer necessary or more valid.

I do see your point there. Obsidian is more difficult to mine than Mithril so it would be a step above.

But from a blacksmithing point of view, the costs of Obsidian are the same as Mithril, and the trivial is only a few points higher. So from a smithing perspective, Obsidian and Mithril are in the same ball park.

But it just came to me, I guess the real root of my problem here is that Obsidian has no platemail equivillent. So for just a few more points in smithing, chain mail wearers come way out on top at this skill range of smithing. Enough so that my Warrior will be wearing chainmail over platemail for this skill range in smithing ( and inadvertantly, putting my tanking on par to rangers/rogues). I think its strange I guess that a plate wearer woudl be better off choosing chain mail for this skill range.

Gear balance strictly based off skill level of combine would be downright absurd.

Mithril & dalium have no recommended level. Obsidian is recommended 20. The lore in the books states the reason there is no plate equivalent.

Obsidian adds lots more dex/agi, while mithril is based on str/sta. The cost on listsold is based on ore price, not on trivial level. The stats are based on recommended level, not the ore.

Obsidian ore is like 20x as hard to get!
