Centaur Faction

I started my main (Rexx) back in March 2005 before the main quest was implemented. I was duoing with an SK when she was attacked by several centaurs as we made our way through WBL. Needless to say, since we assumed we were KoS to centaurs, we killed them whenever we could. I stopped playing my main for a while and only recently decided to do the main quest with him (after doing it with several other characters).

I know centaur faction improves by killing gnolls, but it's insanely slow. I have found no higher level mobs to improve faction on, so I went to BB and slaughtered top to bottom every gnoll I could find (without attacking mobs near groups in there). Anyway, after killing nearly every mob in there 3+ times (top to bottom sweeps) centaurs still con as scowling. I'm getting faction messages, but it is not improving. I realize I was deeply KoS but at a point it says you can't go lower so after killing that many gnolls, how is it that they still scowl?

I had another character that was KoS to centaurs, but after the main quest was implemented he no longer was KoS. Were factions supposed to be set back to baseline for the kargyxx, lake gnolls, and centaurs when they become necessary for doing the good path?

Can we get corrupted centaurs to give +Centaur Survivor faction? That way I don't have to ruin a lowbie zone in order to fix my faction (which at the time I ruined it was worthless), to continue the main quest. As it stands no corrupted centaurs give any faction at all, but turning in their manes does afaik. Doesn't help any though if you're KoS and can't turn in manes.

I think the only way is to kill Gnolls until the faction will not go up anymore, then turn in the manes for the rest of the faction.

Problem is...faction doesn't appear to be moving at all. I'm not sure how many mobs are in BB aside from pirahnas (the attack dogs are faction also), but after killing every single faction mob in there at least three times, you'd think I'd be up to threateningly by now. It's still at scowling though. :-/

Hell I even deliberately triggered the trap in the dog pit every time I went by so I could get more faction hits, but still I'm at scowling. I also killed I don't know how many in CH and Everfrost...still scowling. :-/ Could I be bugged?

It just seems that slaughtering a popular newbie zone repeatedly for faction isn't ideal. I'll do it if it's the only way, but I know how it can suck trying to level when a 60+ person comes in your zone and starts obliterating everything in sight. If it was Newport faction I could go do bandits or liodreth or something instead of gnoll ears, but being as this is the ONLY faction adjuster for centaurs, I'm pretty much locked into it.

I've done as far as gemstone of the seeker on the good path, and not needed any of the factions you mentioned. I'm guessing they're part of the Silver Crown or Blackscale aug quest and not the actual main quest?

Regardless, try using the Ambassadors Writ clicky, an illusion, or invis to turn in the manes. (I know you can't charm NPCs for faction to buy/sell, but is it allowed for quest turnins?)

You needed to talk to him for the Gemstone of Insight if you choose the good route (talk to the Priestess in NBL instead of Taroceth the Decaying).

You can't invis, FD, or sneak on this server to complete quests. Ambassador's Writ or illusion won't help unless you're almost out of KOS anyway, as they're not that big a faction modification.

I've done up to the Seeker Gem on two other characters and up to Insight on several others...

I'm not trying to find a workaround really. I just need to know two things:

a) Can there be another way to gain faction that doesn't involve me screwing over low level people trying to exp?
b) Is my faction bugged? After killing that many gnolls and still being at scowling faction it seems odd.

I had to do the same, I used to kill Helleron everytime I passed in Centaur Hills until I realized the MQ involved his faction :/ so yea I slaughtered BB multiple times, like 5 times or even more, and got to indifferent eventually ; then turned in the manes which was also a painful process due to the small number of corrupted centaurs.
It's just that for every faction, scowl is much much longer than the rest to pass. Try to screw your giant/dragon faction it will go very quick to max scowl. Now slaughter the opposite faction to farm scales/heads and tell me when you reach indiff :p (and mnd you its more simple, cause higher level means more faction hit I suppose, plus you can farm for nice turnins while BB gnols give crappy faction hit and low faction ears...)

I think both the good path and bad path require you to speak with Helleron (the named Centaur) and a couple of others (Marzik in SB, the gnoll in SF). I think the problem Kukov is talking about is that Helleron won't talk to you if your KOS since he'll be too busy trying to pound you into the ground so you can never flagged for this part to complete good/bad path.

Unfortunately, aside from blackburrow, I don't think there's an alternate means of getting faction hits to get out of KOS.

Yeah, you're right, I did the parts of mq that can be done at lower levels a LONG time ago and had forgotten. Still try the stuff I suggested and anything else you can think of, the alliance click could save you a ton of hours in BB, it helped me get my RoLF without extra hours of tedious factioning.

Yeah I have one on an alt I think. I'll try that out, but I'm sure I have several hours of faction work to do still.

Yeah I only killed one (but attacked two) Centaur Outrider by mistake thinking it was corrupted, and I had to kill some 200+ gnolls to earn favor. Wish I knew about the Alliance clicky at the time.

At the exact time that it was implemented, you COULD talk to that one centaur while invis. I do not know if that has been corrected, but at the time, it was not considered a bug or exploit, it was there for the exact problem described above.

However, I do not recall the gnolls giving centaur faction back then either, but my memory could be faulty.
