Caster DPS Specialization in SoD?

Greetings:

I'm trying to determine whether Energy/Defense, Focus/Mind, or a bit of both is the best way to go for a Wizard in SoD.

I'm picturing a sustained DPS environment (like on a raid), and trying to determine which specialization will be the most efficient.

It would help to know two things:

1. Does anyone know what the points spent actually equal in terms of game mechanics/performance?
E.G. do you recieve [1%] additional DD spell damage for every [10] points spent in Energy/Defense?
Can you dump all your points into one category with no penalty? Or is there a diminishing return system in place that makes points spent over X total less effective?

2. Real-game experience from SoD vets, and their opinions on where to spend points as a Wizard.

Right now, i'm leaning towards all points in Focus/Mind (unless there is a diminishing return or graduated system in place... see question #1 above).
In my eyes... less casting cost means more nukes with less downtime, and harder-to-resist spells mean more DPS efficiency.

Sure, more DPS per spell is nice, but if it's resisted or you're oom... it doesn't really matter anymore if you're casting big burst damage spells.
The added melee defense is ok, but honestly if i'm tanking mobs on a raid then something is amiss (and a few extra AC isn't going to prevent a quad-400 monster all over me!)

However, I could be completely wrong.
Maybe the coding favors the DPS increase of Energy/Defense, and I see my DPS efficiency by casting lesser, cheaper spells that now hit for more damage... rather than my biggest, flagship nukes.
This is why i'd love to have a better idea about #1, the choice might be blatantly obvious.

Thanks in advance for any advice and/or information!

You'll be able to max out both. No issue there :)

10 points per level - 250 max skill in each...

500 points by level 50 and potential for 150 in another skill type by the time you're 65. :)

Well that answers that :)

Thanks for the swift clarification!

250 points (max limit) in a specialization gives you a 10% bonus to whatever the spec affects. 10% less mana spent, 10% more damage, 10% more chance to resist a spell cast against you, etc, etc. As for point gain, it's 10 per level and I believe you also get 5 or 10 per aa as well, but I don't know for sure. Either way, I personally just drop 5 points in both Energy/Defense and Focus/Mind each level on my Wizard (currently 24). At 50, both'll cap out while steadily improving and you can move on to Sight/Warding (Improves spell resists, ranged melee combat) or Blunt/Agility (Improves avoidance, 1h/2h blunt weapon damage).

Ahhhhhhhhhh, thanks Taedirk!
You've satisfied the anal-retentive, type-a, OCD number crunching aspect of this game feature that was driving me batty.
I've played MMO's for too long to just 'accpet that it's better'... I need numbers and formulas, dammit! :D

I'm just as bad, as indicated by my excel sheets of DPS/DPM calculations. Wish I still had all my old EQ information as well, but then it'd just be worse.

Also of note, you get two (I think) spec points per AA.

I'll go ahead and confirm that. So at level 65 with 50 AAs you should be able to have three specialization types fully maxed out. (750 pts)

focus/mind

i would do focus/mind first because it helps with resists, though i couldn't tell you how much.

let's just say, resists are the number one killer of low level wizards. i'll let you know what it's like when i get high level..

ps - i just wanted to add that cha affects resists (not everyone realizes)
