Re: Cant setup game because of new Game Launchpad
My original installation was done with the Anniversary Edition box set (original game plus every expansion up to the Burning Sea). It worked fine but as I played I found out that for some unknown reason I could only veiw half of the new player models and turning them on and off in the options window did not work. I also had some very strange instances of the game not showing certain zone and armor color and textures (black equipment, any color robe and all headgear was very quirky for example). I decided to reinstall everything and thats when I ran into this problem. As of now there is no way to get around it that I have been able to figure out. The new installation process prompts for download and installation of the new launchpad before the game will do anything, and while the new launchpad has an option to cancel the update process, there is currently no option to patch files for expansions individually. You either let it grab everything (whatever 'everything' is because I have not taken the time to look at the detailed update log to see exactly what it does download - its alot though because it took nearly 6 hours) or you get booted out of the game entirely. I think my results are informative enough to post here...

My desktop is my primary machine and way beyond the game requirements. I tried letting the new launchpad install and download all the new files the way it wanted to (you can't really control it through options screens), and then tried to play and the SoD patcher would not run. I still had access to an old SoD directory and tried copying all the files I was missing (without overwriting any downloaded files) but still it would not run. Finally I got a copy of a friend's working SoD directory and tried overwriting the existing installation with that, and still ran into SoD patcher problems. What did finally work was installing the game from an actual expansion CD (RoK) and then overwriting everything using my friend's working SoD directory. After overwriting, I had to install the SoD patcher as mentioned in the walkthrough, let it update and then run a full file repatch. I am now able to play with all graphics the way they are supposed to be. I never had to connect to the live server for updates.

I have an old Dell Latitude that I use for dual boxing. It never ran the game correctly and can't handle the new models, but its fine enough for its support purpose. Just to see, I reinstalled the Anniversary Edition without patching to the live server. Theoretically I should already have all the files I need without patching. Once finished I installed the SoD patcher according to the walkthrough and it automatically went through a full file patch and went right into the game. Interestingly though, I am still having the same graphical issues with the Anniversary Edition after a fresh install. But the game is running fine so that proves as long as you have the expansion files up to GoD on CD (or a complete copy of a working SoD directory), you do not need to bother connecting to the new launchpad at all.
Just as an experiment, I also tried copying my friend's complete SoD directory right onto my HD and then running the patcher without installing anything. Though the patcher did in fact run and update everything, the game hung on the startup screen when logging in to play. So you do definitely need to install some version of the old game before you try copying and overwriting files. I hope this post helps those of you who come after the new launchpad. Good luck and we'll see you in SoD
