Cant play after last patch

After the patch Wednesday (or maybe Thursday) morning, every time I try to launch the game the new general rules box opens up, and then the game crashes. Has anyone else had this issue? or know how to solve it?
 
Yeah I have no idea what would be causing this. Did your host file get messed up for some reason?
 
Not sure how to fix the host file. I have an old titanium client laying around, so i reinstalled that. It did not fix my problem, any ideas what else to try?
 
If the live rules are coming up, it makes me think that either your SoD patcher is pointing to the wrong file (make sure it is eqgame.exe and not everquest.exe), or that something on your side is blocking the patchers ability to scoop up files online.
 
Daffie, I have not made any changes that I am aware of. I tried to download a whole new client from the SoE website, and after patching and running it, I get the same issues. It doesnt seem to be the patcher, the game launches into EQW 3.5, and then i see a black screen with red text with 5 rules on it. I press any key and the game crashes (if i just wait nothing happens). Do i need to remove something from the game directory? it didnt say so on the install instructions.
 
It is windows 7. I did a system rollback to before the error, and after a bit of troubleshooting i seems to be able to log in again.

I ran a win7 laptop and this game just fine. Not certain why that would affect it. (I still would, but my daughter bricked it on me.)
