Booted when I zone

Nearo

Dalayan Beginner
I was just wondering why I am booted to the server select screen everytime i zone, i am not running any other programs and only one account but everytime i run through a zone it goes to load and stays there about a minute then the server select screen pops up, any ideas whats wrong?

Are there any options i have at all? i mean everytime i go through a zone i get booted back to the server select screen, it gets very annoying. just didnt know if i could change some commands or something.

If it's every time, that's pretty odd. I don't know much about what ports SoD uses, but it could be that your firewall is blocking one that Zoban's isn't, thereby causing it. I'd suggest trying turning it off (firewall settings in the Control Panel) and zoning to see if that makes any difference. Beyond that, I'm not really sure.

I occasionally lock up while zoning with one character or the other (more recently of late), but it's far from every time, and thus probably an entirely different problem.

Hasrett has a point you could TRY turning off the firewall and see if it helps any. I do NOT suggest leaving it off however.

May also wanna try a spyware search if you haven't already ..

www.microsoft.com .. has a freebie "beta" version
www.ewido.com .. has a trial version aswell as an online active X scanner.

Worth a shot and worse case you may not be able to Zone in SoD but you'll have a cleaner PC.

Honestly, the Microsoft Firewall is a load of shit. You don't need it running. With the most basic internet security, you're pretty safe. Keep a fairly new version of a virus checker updated and running, make a (serious) login password--not your name, not "god", not bobdole, something with capital and lower case and numbers, if not punctuation as well. Don't download shit from warez sites, and only go to the quality pr0n sites, and you're not going to run into much trouble.

If you use a wireless router, either block all unregistered NIC MAC addresses, or use 64 for 128-bit WEP encryption (MAC address registration is a better bet... in spite of the name, Wired Equivalent Protection, WEP is not nearly as secure as a hard line).

Unless you piss off someone who's pretty serious about hacking, you're not going to have much to worry about. It's going to take a damn resourceful script kiddy to get past a few basic safety measures, and none of them will be a pain in the ass and interefere with half your other applications the way the MS firewall does.

Well i believe i figured out what was wrong. I am running on 56k since i live in the middle of no where, but i knew it wasnt booting simply for that reason because i could play on my laptop and not ever get booted. All you have to do is right click on your connection to the internet and then click properties, once in there click on Configure just below your modem name. There are three options in, enable hardware flow control, enable modem error control, and enable modem compression, just turn off enable modem error control and enable modem compression and it zones fine. Not sure if anyone else was having that problem but there it is just incase. Thanks everyone for your time.
