Unfortunately I am a beastlord, so that's a no go. I found an easy early quest for +1 dmg gloves (Tiger Paw Fighter's Gloves), so maybe I'll just go for that until I can scrounge up for something serious, like savage claws or saturated spirit gloves.

If you haven't reached 20+ HtH, Grandmaster's Hand-Wraps of the Risen are better than 2 ele damage gloves in most situations.
Contaminated Gloves and Gloves of Calefaction are other cheap gloves to look into if you can't afford the best ones.
Saturated Spirit Gloves are substantially better dps than the other BOE gloves in most exp zones so once you get a few thousand plat those should be top priority. Flowing Red Leaf-Wraps are the second best dps option and are a good compliment to the Saturated ones because they are a different element, tankier stats, plus the lifetap proc can heal you a bit and also has a -200 resist mod whereas the Saturated ones do minimal damage against stuff with decent resists.

When I did my beast (I dont like to twink till 55) I used the Vah newb quest line spear and the starfall spear till ~55 or so when I got my hands on Savage Claws. While they are both expable items so they might start off weaker than fists, fully leveled they give fists a run for their money till ~55 or 60. Add in that I am not sure the +dmg effect from stacking H2H works until 51 (could be wrong on that) and you have 2 fairly decent items for free (though the Vah quest line is a little long and one part of the quest is a little time consuming).
Runnyeye has some nice gear drops and cool fights along with most of the QPs for the noob quest.
