Beastlord gearing through the levels

Hey guys, I lied earlier when I said I was going to roll a wizard. Sorry about that. Apparently I'm throwing down a beastlord. Will be very minorly twinked (pretty much just a mithril weapon). I'm curious if anyone has any "must get" recommendations for items.

I've poked through the wiki but there's no recommended gearing up articles for beastlords and going through all the gear by piece is pretty awful. I'm mostly just looking for if there's any solid equipment that's easy enough to "pick up along the way" while leveling.

Thanks!

The "Beastlord Quests" page on the wiki is pretty useful. By doing the quests it will ensure you that you will be hunting in approximately the right level range. There's some decent gear you can pick up along the way.

Other than that, killing the adepts is a good way to get some gear. Not sure how much people kill these adepts but if you ooc you might find some people that are willing to log on alts and kill them.

Thanks! I was thinking about doing the quests, but I'm going to be running with a group of friends and don't think I'll be in the right areas. Not sure it's really worth going back to either, none of them seem like "need to haves". We are planning on hitting the adepts where we can, though I looked through the first bunch of them and it didn't seem like I'd be getting much out of them. The few items that seem good for beastlords are better for someone else in the group. Definitely a few that might work though.

Get a charm of the brute and keep a close eye on the fist damge ratio and the bonus you get from H2H mod would be my advice i know at 65 +25 H2h mod makes using bare fists the best option till late in the game.

Cinny is right. Get your brute charm, and pick up some h2h items. Do a wiki search for those. There is a decent one from paw that has no level req ( http://wiki.shardsofdalaya.com/index.php/High_Paw's_Hand ) for example. There is also legs from OG, but they have a level req of 50 (but you'll want them later for sure). Mithril h2h's are a good grab too. I would suggest getting a plat jacinth ring/ear/neck for cheaper haste(10%), neck has stats also. OG has a 36% haste belt, level 50req though. Often the OG items can be bought off the vendors there, so worth checking it out, or even parking a toon with cash there to check periodically. The quest series for bst from Halas are decent items for the level, and fairly easy to pick-up. But you could twink better stuff for not much cash by vendor diving, for sure.
Adepts are a solid choice, especially with a pre-made group, as most early ones are easily done with a solid group. Or, you /ooc for a couple extra people. For the BST: Rabb has a nice shirt, Gristle has a haste back and an earring, Grikk has necklace and piercer, Beetle Queen has a piercer, Mist Stalker has belt, boots, & pants for you. Angar has a great earring (lifetap clickie), and a bracer. Junkbeast has a bunch of cool belt/range items easily one or two in there for you. Flitterwing has a food clickie, and boots, and Brancu has legs that grow to very nice stats. That covers the first twenty levels. Many of those (except maybe the piercers) are good to great for a beast, and worth an attempt or two to acquire. Adepts are some of the best fun, don't miss out on them.

Once you hit 65, grab a pair of saturated spirit gloves (can be had for about 3k if you're patient), the OG pants (wandering fungus wrappings) for 1k or less, charm of the brute and your main quest aug. Congrats, outside of maybe a 2H weapon you don't have to get any new weapons/gloves for a long ass time.

The lack of info on BST items is probably because BST is put on almost every item in the game. It's the easiest class to gear.

Thanks guys, that's some great info. I've seen the barefist charts, but does anyone have the calculations on how h2h skill actually affects it? It seems like mithril weapons would be better than pure h2h until something like level 50, is that not so?

Yeah, stacking HTH isn't all that great until you get close to 65, but it's the best DPS option by far until the highest tiers of raiding.

Saturated Spirit Gloves as soon as you're 55 is when it becomes substantially better than weapons.

Gearing a Beastlord can be tricky. Almost every focus effect is helpful. You'll want to find something that gives you companion strength and companion health. Long lost are the good old days were you only needed those items when creating the pet or zoning. You need them on all the time. I would look for a Quickstream Bracer. Great bang for the buck when it comes to haste. You get the full haste on an item right from level 1 even if it is a recommended level of 50. You might be able to find one for the 1500-2k range.
I would recommended choosing one of the smaller pets when you need to choose one. Big Polar Bear pets look cool but they really can get in the way in a dungeon. Anything you can get your hands on that adds critical strike or attack is very helpful. I always liked the Shirt of Slave Hair because of it's no level req.
Good luck.

I was surprised to see a pair of Saturated Spirit Gloves on listsold just this morning. Perhaps they're still there (or at least someone can post with what the name might've been). Good luck finding them however you do it -- they're a lot of fun once you hit 55!

Yeah well I'm just starting so I won't be dealing with that just yet, but good to know what to shoot for. I went with Ogre and I was currently flip flopping between elephant and gorilla, are the big pets that bad? I figured with pet shrink at 20 it wouldn't really matter. I'm not really feeling the skunk, is the gorilla smaller than the elephant?

Even with pet shrink, they only get so small. Some fights, that gets rather annoying (especially at lower levels, where they die more and you summon mid-fight far more often). That being said, choose the one you like, and just learn to deal with it.

I play a barb, but i have played a lot of trolls too. Large races are such a pain in the ass because you always need to shrink every time you log in or get to your stopping zone or get a res... Large pets are the same way and they annoy the shit out of your group mates and raiding buddies...

I'm innately lazy (or efficient) and find it annoying every single time I need to cast shrink. (The same goes with gender illusion...)

That said, I play a barb shaman because the pirate eye patch model is cool (and so is the bald bad ass Luclin model.)

Take my perspective as you will.

If you find Ogre size to be getting in the way too often in game, drop me a line and I may be able to give you a Permanent Soulbonded illusion to more of a "fun size" race. As for the elephant vs. gorilla, this is only anecdotal, but it seems to me the gorilla is seen less often than the elephant. Part of the reason for this may be that the gorilla's grunting sound is bugged (or poorly implemented) and loops continuously instead of once in a while. If you don't play with sound anyway, this won't be an issue. If you do play with sound, the matter can be fixed by editing a simple .txt file in the directory.

What, you didn't take barb to look sexy in a kilt while attempting to kick butt? (I'm not really sure why i chose barb way back when, so that's become my excuse. haha)

What needs to get changed for the gorilla? And does it affect everyone around me too? I could get my group to fix it for themselves, I think, but that's kind of a hassle and I feel like a jerk if everyone else is going to be annoyed by it.

Does the permanent illusion last through logging off and back on too? That might be awesome at some point.

Yeah enchanter soulbound perm illusion will last forever except maybe for fights that debuff you with some sort of illusion I think.

Followup question:

I have nowhere near that much money. Got about 5-600pp and not much else to do with it other than cover spells for a bit, which I don't think should take much. Would it be worth it to get Hands of the Webspinner for 400pp? By some rough calculations, with the charm of the brute I have, I think my fists would pass out a mithril ner'tok around 25 or 30. Then I think they could pretty much carry me through the rest of leveling. It sounds like it's probably worth it, but I wanted to run that by you guys. Obviously the proc is pretty worthless, but I figured the +2 dmg should do some work.

I don't know enough about Monk numbers to give advice on the gloves you linked, but if the +2 elemental damage is what catches your eye about those gloves, consider questing these ones from Starfall. They'd be "free" if you were up for a little questing. :)
