Bards role in the endgame

I recently started a bard and was wondering, what does a bard do in a raid situation? Do they attack, sit in healer/nuker group with mana songs going, buffing melee/ MT groups? Or do they just do w/e is needed?

I think their role is to drool over Ginam. On a serious note tho, not sure. There have been some changes to bards of course, but I would guess it is at least a little be related to the live game.

They sing +Resist songs, spell damage increasing songs, mana/hp regen, and overhaste usually. They're a nice bundle of utilities to have.

I personally will never envy ginam. On a side note, yea we are restis bots. That and mez/slow/ well lots of crap really.

After grouping regularly with a bard recently, I now try not to go anywhere without one... Bard <3 is great.

Regarding raids:

In combat, mana regen is capped at a pretty low value reachable by other buffs, so there really isn't much point in singing mana during a fight as it doesn't provide much benefit. (exception might be a lower level raid which has a lack of mana-regen buffers present and a good chunk of the raiders are not near the in combat mana-regen cap) Out of combat, mana regen songs are their normal good thing.

Some bard changes a few months ago changed the raid game a bit. We can only sing 2 beneficial songs to buff up our groups and some of the raid songs like the Overhaste/Tarhyl line were made AE. AE Resists are great when needed. Some really experience raid leaders have basically stated that for your average raid, all that's really needed/desired on a raid is one bard with AE songs. Nowdays, that one bard can easily be botted.

Just wait for Ginam's input here, to be honest. And Jame, that would be me who has stated that ;p

Hi, I am not Ginam. Methinks certain folks have heard the ginam-hype so much (from ginam?) that they've started to believe it.

Anyways, Bards at the end game do as folks have said, pretty much anything you do in normal groups with a few exceptions.

You won't be mezzing on raids. Give it up :) Our mezzes cap low.

Once you get geared and aa'd for it, your DPS will be rather high. Granted, this means a lot of raids and aa's in a bard's case. And the DPS is lackluster without the relic dot and those are rare. To date only myself and Phar have it, to my knowledge.

You also add the ability to offtank minor mobs. Ginam's best at this, btw, since he likes playing offtank. Personally, I'd rather do bard-stuff and add more DPS. Then again, I'm a gnome so tanking isn't all that viable for me, hehe (we get stunned a lot more).

You'll do the normal resists, which range from 'neat to have' to indispensable, depending on the raid encounter. Along these lines, there's also a relic AE dmg reducer that can save a few lives or spare a lot of mana.

But the best thing about bards is perhaps that they cannot be 'pigeon-holed'. Try your songs in new and interesting ways. You'll be surprised. No, I don't mean the constant mezzing while tanking wierdness. I mean, try a song that add's AC or a Rune where you hadn't tried it before. We have a ton of little worthless songs, that aren't all that worthless in certain situations.

Or, if you're truly bored and have no problem pissing off 36 people in the name of 'good fun', go sing Melanies Meliflous Motion in the heat of battle. That'll get the blood flowing :p

A few more bards have relic dots now, and i think ruin might have some in the bank.

2 Bards can be useful in raids, but thats mainly just on mobs that need resists, in which case one can sing resists and the other can sing warcry. Its also useful to have 2 bards for the resist debuffs. One bard for occulusion and chant of destruction, and the other for fire debuff and whatever other resist debuff is needed.

If you had 3 bards, one could be grouped with the main tank to sing ds and ac or something like that, but really not as useful.

Bard melee dps maxes out just below 100 in raid situations from my experience.

The ae magic damage reducer is group only now.

Then your opinion is worthless :)

No seroiusly, I miss the days of ripping up cmal3 with Ginam AND Foma  . 2 Bards :10bux: :10bux:

Yeah, I can't stand grouping without a bard around!

. . . . .

Since of course, that's grouping, and the question asked was regarding raiding, listen to Foma and Ginam. From what I've seen in my guild, #1 role is resists! And one bard can do all resists needed with PoT4 and Elemental or Purifying Chorus. HP/mana regen in the downtime, if you want. A few more that are "oh hey cool!" but the first is necessary for many encounters.

But anyways, not like I actually play a bard or anything. Healers ftw!
