Bard Song Filter

Perhaps this has been brought up already, but I couldn't find a thread for it so if it has been addressed already, I'm sorry.

My suggestion and request is that there either be some effective way of filtering out bard song animations and sounds, or that the animations and sounds be toned down to a bareable level. I can not ever play as a bard because I spend all my time apologizing for the non-stop light and sound show, and I mute my computer so I don't hear the casting sounds over and over, hour after hour (reminds me of my shaman canabalizing on EQLive). Bards are meant to inspire their companions, but they are instead outcasts because they are so annoying.

Any chance they could be once again given back their ability to entertain and inspire? Thanks.

. .. I've never felt like an outcast, nor do I beleive I've ever been excluded from groups just because I'm a bard. (Though I guess I wouldn't know, not like they'd tell me =/). In addition, on my alts I absolubtely JUMP at the chance to have a bard in my group, because I <3 the mana regen, and they're incredibly versatile. But then, maybe that's just because I'm on the inside scoop of just how cool they are.

Then again, I always do leave my sounds turned off as a matter of course.

This has actually been discussed to death (although I'm too lazy to dig up the thread), and the verdict was: It can't be done. We're stuck with the bard sound spam.

The graphics can be taken off by turning off particle effects but the sound (which I agree is unbearable without taking the volume down) seems to be impossible to turn off.

I allways thought that if they could just make the group buff bard songs into the same as hymn of restoration. Just the little notes floating around and no huge sound that this would probably take care of it.

Thats odd, for me bard songs dont make any sound. I had been kinda messing around with my sound files in my SoD folder in an attempt to get the all the Original Midi music working, maybe thats why. I have volume up and I hear nothing other then environmental sounds, combat, and various in game music.

Please, please, please tell me what you did, and I will play my bard again. SOD without sound is no fun for me :)

This is cut and paste from a post I made a long arse time ago about the in game music:

1) Find your OLD Classic Game CD, the original. Not Classic Game Gold or Classic Game Trilogy or anything like that, the origonal.

2) Install it into any folder, I chose to install it into a folder called Classic. So for me it was C:\Program Files\Classic.

3) Do not patch your new Classic folder, leave it as is because it already contains all the files you will need to enable all of the old Classic Game music.

4) Within the Classic folder you have just installed you will find the following files:

(.XMI being Midi in compressed format, sort by type to get all the .xmi files easier.)

akanon.xmi
befallen.xmi
blackburrow.xmi
butcher.xmi
cauldron.xmi
damage.xmi
eastkarana.xmi
ect...

You want to Copy ALL the .xmi files from the Classic folder Into the Game folder you run SoD from. All xmi files from akanon.xmi to tox.xmi

5) Now that all the music files have been moved into your SoD folder what you need to do is go back into the Classic folder and find the following files:

(All these files are in the EFF format so sort by type will make theis alot easier)

airplane_sndbnk.eff
airplane_sounds.eff
akanon_sndbnk.eff
akanon_sounds.eff
befallen_sounds.eff
beholder_sndbnk.eff
beholder_sounds.eff
blackburrow_sndbnk.eff
blackburrow_sounds.eff
butcher_sndbnk.eff
butcher_sounds.eff
ect...

What you want to do is copy any file ending in _sndbnk.eff AND _sounds.eff

Copy them from the Classic folder into the Game folder you run SoD from. All files from airplane_sndbnk.eff, airplane_sounds.eff TO tox_sndbnk.eff, tox_sounds.eff

I dont know if this will work for bard sounds as it only really files for zone music and sounds but perhaps. Also I could set up a .rar file with all these files for people to download if you like. (Considered Warez?)

Hope this helps
